You might also want to raise a complaint to the banking regulator, as that will put pressure on the bank (lloyds?) who has inherited the TSB and is being slow to come up with an answer.

The reason this might work is that the bank is clearly having trouble finding the records - this puts them in breach of banking regulation, so they won't want to admit that they can't find the records to the regulator, and it's such a small amount that it's likely they will write it off and release the charge, just to make the case with the regulator go away.
According to the OP he doesn't think anybody has contacted the bank. So they are not being slow  to come up with the answer.

The only time I needed to retrieve some archived records I ended up in an aircraft hangar. Extraction of old documents is not an easy task.

    Update

I put everything out my head this past week cause i was just getting myself worked up.

The selling solicitor emailed this to my solicitor last Monday

    -  “For you information, I have been in contact with Lloyds Archive team who have been unable to locate any information on this mortgage account. It is “too old”. They have offered me to write in but said because of the age, they may not be able to find anything. They have asked me to write to secured assets, Halifax plc. Doubtless the irony will not be lost on you or your clients. I will fax them tomorrow.”

This is the first attempt this solicitor has done since everything began to try and locate the old account.

Hopefully maybe hear back this week but I have accepted this will be a long process
