I decided that i was going to buy a xbox 360 because of its cost, but them thinking about it in the long term which would be best, atm the PS3 would be SLIGHTLY more expensive. my mate works at a and can get a discount in the dixons group :j

White bread brown bread? they both have their fans! not on the same level of comparison but at present i have an Xbox 360... and plan to get a PS3 shortly. Reason being some games you get on Xbox and not on PS3 and vica versa also the fact that the PS3 can play BluRay discs

as said its really a personal thing.
both have pro's and cons
depends on you
do you want HD movies(though 360 has the HD DVD add on)
do you want backwards compatibility?
what console exclusive games are most intersting to you?0 -
The extra advantage of the PS3 is its far more reliable than the 360.The "Bloodlust" Clique - Morally equal to all. Member 20

D'oh!
This one could run and run... usually we end up posts like
'The xbox is better because....'
'The PS3 is better because....'
'No, the xbox is better because....'
I've both, i prefer the xbox as the range of games is better. That may not be the case next year though.
I think both are great overall. I guess its down to personal choice.0 -

I prefer the xbox because you can play both HD and normal DVDs on it (I don't think normal DVDs play on the PS3.) Someone has mentioned blu-ray discs, but if you decided to get rid of the PS3 you'd then have to buy a blu-ray player whereas I think HD dvd players can also play normal DVDs and so are likely to become more popular. (And therefore cheaper, more accessible etc.)
The 360 also has loads more games, and selected few of the old xbox games are compatible. You can also download for free from xbox live loads of retro games like sonic. And a moneysaving tip is that if you buy new xbox 360 games, most come with 1 month free on xbox live, you can use as many of these free months as you like.
The only annoying thing about the 360 is if you want to play online, but split-screen (ie, 2 people in the same house wanting to play online at the same time) the option is only available on very few games - whereas it seems to be available on proportionately more for the PS3.I don't believe and I never did that two wrongs make a right0 -
The PS3 plays normal DVDs as well. Personally I would never have bought a PS3 at the original price but now it is cheaper I would probably go with the PS3 as it is likely to be around longer than the Xbox 360 which is already a couple of years old. I would expect the number of games for the PS3 to start picking up over the next year.
The Blu-Ray drive is only a factor if you have a HD TV of course.
Having said all that Coveredinbees is right of course which is why Santa is bringing a Wii to our house.
One other point an Xbox bought now should be reliable as they have changed the motherboard design to fix the design flaw in the original ones. It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die0 -
Undoubtedly the PS3 is the future, but dont believe that the PS3 is better than the X-Box 360, Sony are not afraid of lying of about specification to make their machine look better.
If I had the money though, it would be PS3, even though the X-Box has a stronger line up of services and games."See you on the Other Side"0 -
if you like multiplayer gaming then id go for the 360, yes you pay a monthly/yearly amount but what you get for it is worth it imoNo Links in Signature by site rules - MSE Forum Team 20
