So,will he get back to me?  Especially as the comments so far ,have been defeatist!
If you want ML to look at it, then you need to follow him on Twitter. But I'm sure he is on his annual sabbatical at the moment.

I think the telling comment is "Estimated" No energy company is going to give you a exact payment for the next 7 1/2 years. As they have no idea how your energy usage will change.

all comments about Martin to one side.....

I'd say you need to look at the T&Cs. I would expect that there is some get out of jail clause that says that they are allowed to change things at any time, providing they give you enough notice.

When they notified you of the error I would have expected them to say "oops we didn't mean 2029 we meant 2022" or similar.  Given that means at least 5 months (or whatever) in the future it gives you plenty of time to shop around.  And given the error you should be allowed to change provider without a penalty.

  • OK thanks for the comments,I would say it's easy to accept what these big companies say rather than challenge them,I have been successful in the past.

Some years ago Southern electric informed me that my tariff was going up by a considerable amount,I ignored it as it was mid summer and we were too busy to think of anything bar crop harvesting.
So 6 months later a new huge bill came in,I refused to pay the new rate ,insisting on previous rates,
after I quoted the legal ruling,---silence can not be construed as acceptance of a contract-- they agreed that I could pay old rates but I had to find a new supplier.

They let you pay the old rates to get rid of you as they saw you as more trouble than you're worth.

If the T&C's you signed up to allow them to alter your rates, they can alter your rates, whether you agree to them when they inform you or not.

    Debatable actually.

    Indeed,but who won?

When EDF took over GNE they offered me this,in writing

    Your current tariff ends 31 January 2029 – that's in 2738 days.

Your current tariff ends 31 January 2029

Your monthly estimated energy cost is £54 on your current tariff

They now say,to get out of it ,that it was a mistake .

Where do I stand ,what rights and options do I have?

How does one get an answer, from the main man,Martin himself?

It is quite obviously a mistake and it takes someone of low moral standards to take advantage of a mistake to gain financially.

But hey, if they think they've "won", why would they care?

You can debate whatever you like, but it's pretty obvious that any reasonable person would expect to be charged according to the T&Cs.
They won - they got rid of a problem customer, and the new supplier can't be held to what is clearly a mistake.

I'm sure you've made plenty of mistakes and not been held to them!
