Huge Insurance Hike following no fault accident

Options
2 weeks ago, a HGV ploughed into me later, admitting I was in his blind sport. My car is a write off but at least no fault to me.
So tonight I did a sample quote on a car I planned to buy, with the same insurance company and also a few others to get a compare. And to my surprise, my current insurance company is twice the price of the next competitor.
Is my old insurer adding to my premium regardless of the fact I have a no-fault claim?

    Probably, yes.

Your driving history suggests you are more likely to cost them money in the future.

Defensive driving helps. Don't sit in HGV blind spots, especially when they may be likely to change lane.or make some other manoeuvre, and think about the space they cannot help but take on roundabouts and junctions.

There must have been a big gap in front of you for him to move into...

There was no gap but he thought there was. I had police and ambulance adjacent who are my witnesses.

Don't worry about your existing insurer.  As you have found if they don't want your business another company will.

In 2010 I had a no fault claim, LV were the insurer and were excellent, until renewal time.  Renewal price doubled so I went elsewhere.  I always check LV and it has taken until this year for them to offer a competitive price again.
  • Thanks. The insurer I moved from is half the price so I'll take that.

No, it's because you've had a claim. As you've already found, it pays to shop around.

Puzzling, because my wife was in a no fault accident in Feb 2020 and was insured with LV and her insurance hasn't gone up at all. one of the few times I have stayed with the same insurer.

Oh well, always helps to speak directly on the phone. The new quote was in line with the competition so looks like there's been no effect from the accident.

Are you claiming off of your own insurance?

The issue will be that you have an open claim and because not all claims go as expected most insurers will rate an open claim as a fault claim irrespective of the circumstances. If you stay with the same insurer (and I mean insurer not broker) many will correct for the over charging once the claim is settled as non-fault.
