Sorry its been a whirlwind week and I haven't had time to reply.

Thank you firstly for taking the time to reply - I do appreciate it

I've written down things that are worrying me:

New area / Never lived away from "home"
Worried about relying on someone for bills - This is something I haven't done for 10 years....
Frightened of things not working out
Oddly enough, worried that I wont come back "home"

I am trying to get excited but in all honesty, I'm more scared. I think once I start planning things / get in the house it will be better

I've had someone approach me (Neighbours grandson) about renting my house which I've said no to - at least not for now. It's something we can do in the future - I'm going to start another thread about "what to do" when renting a property before giving it some serious though (but again, I've told him it wont be available until next year at the earliest)
I'm sure you already know this, but there are lots of legal requirements when letting out a property and it's a good idea to be sure you understand them all, and are able to comply with them all before you go ahead. The Buying, Selling and Renting board has really informative stickies at the top, plus lots of knowledgeable posters who can help. I'd recommend starting your thread there.

I'm not sure I'd want to rent to anyone I knew, just because letting property is a business and I'd rather keep things on a business footing. Worst case scenario with neighbour's grandson is he doesn't pay rent, wrecks your house and you have to eventually evict. Heaven forbid but if you then have to move back, you have to deal with (presumably) mortified grandparents as neighbours. I wouldn't take the chance.

I think nerves are perfectly reasonable when making such a life change, and wish you well with your exciting move.

    Times 2

The housing forum is full of "accidental" landlords who are in a mess.

Worst case scenario the relocation doesn't work or OH's job relocates again so you want to move back and it takes 18 months (current best estimate for courts) to try and evict tenant and your failure to get one small thing right loses you the case.

IF longer term you decide to become a landlord, sign up for the training courses and spend the next 18 months getting in place the up-grades and paperwork needed to be fully compliant.
If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing
