"There is no specific offence for talking on a mobile phone while cycling. However, you could be prosecuted for careless or inconsiderate cycling contrary to section 29 of the Road Traffic Act 1988.MikeWhite said:Herzlos said:oldagetraveller1 said:I've witnessed more than one cyclist glued to and fiddling with their mobile phone whilst riding. It applies to them too.
Sure, but that doesn't make it better for anyone. At least a cyclist distracted by a phone will do minimal damage, if any.
Indeed, and it's not (yet) illegal, either.

Says it all about the motorist brigade, care more about getting to work 5 seconds faster even if they knock off cyclists / blokes on bikes on the way and think describing sensible cycle clothing is an insult. If drivers didn't think leaving 1' of space so they can squeeze through, carry out punishment passes, obeyed red lights, obeyed traffic signals, obeyed speed limits, didn't use their phone while driving etc then cameras would be far less common. The 3 people I have reported to the police are for drivers going through a clearly marked no left turn sign and turning across a bike lane, endangering people.Johno100 said:No, just your usual lycra clad nutter looking for something to put on their YouTube channel.

Rear facing camera helps prove the tailgating and dangerous passes when they are reported to the police or in the event of injury claims when knocked off.jimbo6977 said:At the weekend I overtook a pedal cyclist who was dressed all in dayglo, with a small rear-facing sign protruding from somewhere on the rear of the bike frame that looked like a speed camera sign (silhouette of the old concertina type camera) but with a dayglo background. The cyclist seemed to have a Sustrans logo on his sleeve but I could be mistaken. Is this a new kind of mobile offence-detection ploy or something else?4
