Camera Bicycle?

At the weekend I overtook a pedal cyclist who was dressed all in dayglo, with a small rear-facing sign protruding from somewhere on the rear of the bike frame that looked like a speed camera sign (silhouette of the old concertina type camera) but with a dayglo background. The cyclist seemed to have a Sustrans logo on his sleeve but I could be mistaken. Is this a new kind of mobile offence-detection ploy or something else?

No, just your usual lycra clad nutter looking for something to put on their YouTube channel.

Cameras are proving to be fantastic at catching dodgy drivers. Just send the footage to the police for prosecution. It will just be a normal recording camera rather than a speed camera. Great for catching drivers on their phones. I should get one really.
But be careful because they'll also look at your own driving/riding in the clip.

Oh yes. If I committed an offence in a clip I would be straight down to the police station to show them it.

A lot of cyclists are fitting camers both front and rear these days - Some may call them idiots butthe same could be said about motorists fitting them. NOT ALL cyclists are idiots - ***cyclist who was dressed all in dayglo,*** did not stop my Grandson being hit by  a van last year. The camera footage came in handy when the insurance companies started looking at things.

I cycle and have a camera on my handlebars - it’s great for capturing dodgy driving and easy to upload to the police.  Cycling friends often have theirs on their helmets and say that when motorists  can see a camera they drive more carefully.  Maybe I should get one of those signs!

Cyclists often have cameras because dangerous driving - particularly close passing - is a near daily occurrence, and the cyclists want to be safe whilst cycling - hardly unreasonable.

I believe there are some police cycling operations on at the moment about close passing, where an officer is on a bike with a camera and dodgy drivers will get pulled over a short distance later.

But anyway, if you're driving considerately then you've got no more to worry about than any other dash camera :)

I've witnessed more than one cyclist glued to and fiddling with their mobile phone whilst riding. It applies to them too.

Sure, but that doesn't make it better for anyone. At least a cyclist distracted by a phone will do minimal damage, if any.

Indeed, and it's not (yet) illegal, either.
