Good for you, not everyone has or wants to buy a 17 year old Astra though. They've depreciated about as much as is possible.

That said, WBAC would give you £150 for it, it'd sell at auction for maybe £300-500 and then it'd be on a dealership forecourt for £1500 the next day.

I've been looking for a small petrol runaround and the prices are just nuts.

Nor i ,it was donated from my son when he bought a new car 5 years ago ,it was sitting on my drive when we came back off holiday ,i have driven for over 50 years but was always " white van man " ,not all white but employed with van supplied so never needed to own a car.
We have been thinking of upgrading but as in this post the prices of used cars is going through the roof ,went to look at a Dacia ,£8000 brand new but they are cheap for a reason, as said i will keep the Astra going for a bit longer as i am capable of getting it through the MOT and see how things pan out in 9 to 12 months.

    Too true - too true.

Even the local independent (who I'd trust to only have good cars, or do the right thing if they sold a 'lemon') was sold out a weeks or so ago (one of my friends was looking for something).  On the Thursday afternoon, they took delivery of 3 vehicles, by Friday afternoon, two of those had already gone.

I don't know how well hot cakes sell these days, but I wish I had a product that sold as easily as used cars.

I'm not surprised the A class saloon was still in stock - the CLA fell down way too many branches of the ugly tree...
Aren't the A-Class saloon and the CLA two different (though barely distinguishable) models?
The A-class (W177) is a hatchback; the CLA is a saloon (C118) or shooting brake (X118) based on the same platform.  I'd say the CLA saloon is the least attractive of the three - like a squidged C-class.
I need to think of something new here...

Not to be confused with the old A-class!! 😉🤮

How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)

Indeed, though that is possibly the best A-Class.  My MiL has one and it's really good and far more reasonable price point than all these new models seem too expensive IMO.

Are the GLA and EQA also on the same basic car platform?

There must be a marketing reason that they carried the old name over.  As Grumpy's image shows - under the new nomenclature they c/should all be CLA Hatch/Saloon/Coupe/Shooting Brake.

Yep - the GLA (H247) and EQA (H243) are on the same platform (MFA2)
