Paying sellers storage costs??

It isn't just the storage costs, it's the cost of 2 x removal charges if she is thinking of using a removal company.1

If you are adamant that you want the house you may have to hold your nerve.enewell said:Unfortunately we live nearly 100 miles away from where we are going. The agreement has always been to complete in August. Looks like I need to have some honest conversations and start making some plans.
We already had one buyer and seller pull out at the start of this year. Think I'm at my wits end now!
If you do make her an offer of storage costs I would stipulate that it is only for 1 month and she is responsible for removing her own furniture.
I personally would be looking at other properties and make her aware of this, she may be holding out for more money.0 -
How much do you love this house? If a lot then offer to pay for her removal into storage plus a fixed amount of storage fees. If you are just buying this house because it is in the right area then consider renting for 6 months yourselves instead. (Looking at the cost of this may make option 1 look like a bargain!)2

We really love the house. I made the offer for storage on Tuesday and still haven't had a reply (which is probably telling and just rather rude in my opinion) But I agree with some of you that we just have to hold our nerve because it's a sellers market right now and there are no other options. I just hate that at the moment, it looks like me and my son are going to be renting a spare room when he starts school, and we still have to pay her extra money for inconveniencing us! I swear, once we move I'm going to move again! 🤦🏻♀️1

Honestly the hype will settle. Renting isn't the end of the world. Millions do it. But a house is just a house. Keep things in perspective. Your vendor sounds like a nightmare.enewell said:We really love the house. One issue is that, in some areas, house prices have risen quite a bit in the 3 months since your offer was accepted. Suppose you are buying at £200k, and prices have risen 3%, maybe the seller is thinking that her property is worth an extra £6k?enewell said:We really love the house. If that is the case, then offering a few hundred to pay for storage won't help, really. I think you need a proper heart to heart chat with the seller, and then you need to decide whether to pay whatever she wants or to rent. She may have decided that it's such a gold mine,. going up X% a month, that she doesn't want to sell at all.No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -
just wondering if she is one of the many who have found it "easy to sell and hard to buy" - maybe worried that she hasn't found anywhere and maybe stuck in no-mans land0

Hi everyone, thanks for all your replies. Just a quick update - our offer did what we thought and pushed her to make a decision. Unfortunately she pulled out this week and has left us exchanging contracts on our sale next week and now moving into rented accommodation

So sorry to hear this. Have been following the thread as although I am not in the same situation I am concerned my vendor is stalling for time and planning to pull out, mainly because house prices have increased since our offer was accepted and I suspect he has sellers remorse and wants to remarket to get more £. We are also in rented and in a stressful situation (see my other thread!). Fingers crossed you find somewhere else and better soon.1

You will be fine. We always go into rented when we sell/buy, and millions of people rent permanently - it's no big deal. You will be in a fab position to buy somewhere else now. Don't take any nonsense from your next vendors - congrats on now becoming bottom of the chain which removes no end of stress.
