Credit check and address

Hello,
Since we didn't update the address of a new house with the bank at the moment of moving (it was still our correspondence address) but a year later how should we process it while applying for a credit card, ID check etc.? I guess we should give the info that bank holds even if it was better if we updated it?

Give your current, correct details. Don't risk a CIFAS marker.
Update your details anywhere it is inaccurate.2 -
You should apply at the address your credit is registered to - all your financial records like bank statements, electoral role etc
If you are living in one place but records listed elsewhere a year after you moved in, that would be a problem especially if there was something to tie you to multiple addresses e.g. bank in one, council tax in another0 -
this is what we would like to do. But how to do it with the bank? They have our rent payments records but updating the home address with the bank is not obligatory so we did it later, the same with electoral role. Can we change the date of updating?Deleted_User said:Give your current, correct details. Don't risk a CIFAS marker.

You can't change the date of updating, it's a material fact.almanak said:

If you are applying at 123 Fake Street, and you live there and your bank and the 3 CRAs all say you live there, that is fine. If you are applying there but live at 476 Nonsense Avenue and there are credit record ties to there it will be a problem as you would be lying and risk a fraud marker1 -
yes, that is not a problem, the only thing is they ask about how long you live there so I guess putting correct date here is not a problem even if it wasnt updated with bank at that time ? and how to check if all CRAs have this info? Do we have to? We were checking only Experian?

If you're asked how long you've lived at an address, then the only acceptable answer is the honest truth, regardless of how long it was until you shared that information with one or more institutions. IMHO it's unlikely that a bank would work out that you took a long time to update them and use that against you, but if you're confident that "updating the home address with the bank is not obligatory" for your bank then it shouldn't be an issue....almanak said:

You can check the three main CRAs yourself to see what address history they each have for you: https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/loans/check-free-credit-report/1 -
I'd be surprised if it isn't obligatory. A quick check of three random banks/building societies T&C's for this showed Barclays and Nationwide both stating they must be informed of any changes to contact details and Natwest saying should.eskbanker said:

For the record, it also seemed odd to me but I was just quoting OP's own words, which were stated as fact rather than as a question! OP also used the term 'correspondence address', suggesting that their bank recognises a distinction between contact and residence....p3ncilsharpener said:

Oh, I know you were. Just confirming that the OP is very likely to be required to update their address with the bank.eskbanker said:

I know of at least one bank that allowed you to have a correspondence and a home address, but they still wanted the home address to be kept up to date.-1 -
We've updated the record with Experian however the dates regarding electoral roll are strange and they are also not the ones we registered ourselves. Do they update it immediately or after they process it. Does it really matter?Deleted_User said:You should apply at the address your credit is registered to - all your financial records like bank statements, electoral role etc
