Address not showing on drop down menu

Wasn't sure where to post this.

Just about to move, my flat doesn't show on drop down menus on websites so I want to get it added. It's not a new build, it's an older house converted into two. The flat below shows because it is 22 (the original house number I guess). Mine is 22a and doesn't. But other similar flats on my road do show!

Who do I speak to about getting my address added to the drop down menus?

I already checked and it's on the Royal Mail database.

If it's in the official RM postcode list - https://www.royalmail.com/find-a-postcode - then you would need to speak to each individual website that it doesn't show on, and persuade them to speak to whoever provides their address lists, and get them to update...

Thanks yes there is an option, but today I couldn't update my address details with my bank manually, they made me call them and wait 20 mins to get through.

So I am wasting my own time either way...

Do you know how long it's been on the Royal Mail file? If not long, what you're experiencing is normal. Companies pay Royal Mail for updates, but most are cheap and only pay for quarterly, or sometimes even less frequent, updates. Your address goes on Royal Mail then companies don't get it till they next refresh their data. We bought a new-build and it was a year until our address was reliably on all websites.

Although yours isn't a new-build, the creation of a new address due to a conversion will be exactly the same process in this regard.

Re using 'enter address manually' - that's fine most of the time but some companies randomly don't offer this. Next is one - I had to phone to create an account because they won't let you enter an address (why?!?!?!). House insurance was the other thing - had to do it by phone as house insurers aren't keen on addresses not found in their systems. But all get-roundable with phone calls.

How long have the two flats been in separate ownership?

Thank you. They were converted in the 1980s so I don't think it's that. It was already on the Royal Mail database??

Yes, just wondering if that maybe happened recently as it can take time for the database to filter through to everyone who uses it.
  • ours is ours is still listed as the name of the shop that was converted years ago 🙄

Some data bases are very old or have faults.

My house quite frequently comes up as being in a county which hasn't existed since 1996 (and my house wasn't in it when it did exist)

  • Is there a workaround where you can select 22 and then add in 'Flat A' in the second line?
