This is a two-year-old thread. The current (2023) ULEZ rules mandate Euro6 for diesels.

Remember... for diesels, the ULEZ cutoff is Euro6, ~2014, but for petrols, it's Euro4, ~2005.
What if you have a Euro 5 in Diesel and it's a private family car, is there a ULEZ charge for that?
    Yes,
you will get hammered by the charge unless the vehicle is registered as disabled and gets free road tax.
Then you are exempt for 4 years from memory.
Give you time to save for a newer car.
  • If you have off street parking and don't plan to do any long road trips then a used 24 KW leaf would tick all your boxes for about 8k.

It's actually much earlier than that in many cases. My 1998 car is compliant and many post 2001 petrol MK4 VW Golfs are ok as they meet Euro4 requirements.
Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.

Probably better getting Euro 6 petrol? you don't know when they change the criteria...

I am thinking something like 2015 Hyundai i30, KIA Ceed, Toyota Auris

Very good point. The OP hasn’t been seen for nearly 2 years.

Still a valid thread though. My city has CAZ and currently private cars are exempt and that could change at any time. Not that I am planning to do so but if I wanted to drive into central Birmingham, Bristol or Bath then I would be charged.
