Recommend for a family car ULEZ compliant for under 8k
I had to sell my Mecerdez-Benz C220 diesel car because of the ULEZ and now need to replace it. Can anyone recommend a reliable family car ( 4 people) but cheaper to keep? I thought my Mecerdez was expensive to keep and I don't drive much, about 1000-1500 miles a year, mainly a few schools runs, trips to supermarkets and then short trips holidays. But it has to be ULEZ compliant, large boot size is a plus so prefer an estate or hatch back/MPV.
I sold my old one for 7k and plan to top up 1k, so hopefully can buy one under 8k. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

What your describing is what I'm currently looking for and I've decided on Peugeot partner tepee blueHDI 100, might not be to everyone's taste but I need the WAV version for a specific purpose and although a bit basic they appear quite good value to me. From what I've learned so far, 5 seats and loads of boot space, fantastic MPG (on the diesel one), £20 a year RFL and Euro 6 on a late 15 plate onwards.
Petrol one could be better for you with such low annual mileage but they too are definitely Euro 6 in same late 15 plate spec.
Non WAV petrol ones are around 6500-7500K so well within your budget.1 -
For less than 2k miles per year, the most financially astute thing might well be UBER plus the occasional hire car. With such a low mileage, any car is going to be expensive to run:Zhengqian said:I had to sell my Mecerdez-Benz C220 diesel car because of the ULEZ and now need to replace it. - Insurance, £300 per year
- Servicing, £300 per year

Remember... for diesels, the ULEZ cutoff is Euro6, ~2014, but for petrols, it's Euro4, ~2005.

Finance wise, I know it's better to use UBER or zipcar(I just opened an account with them) but when you don't have a car, it seems quite inconvenient especially for a family with children. I am giving zipcar a try would try but at the same time searching on what car to buy if I am not a fan of zipcar.Grumpy_chap said:

Thanks for sharing the model you are looking at. I will check it out. I am also looking at Nissan Qashqai and Skoda Octavia, reviews seem good.onlyfoolsandparking said:What your describing is what I'm currently looking for and I've decided on Peugeot partner tepee blueHDI 100, might not be to everyone's taste but I need the WAV version for a specific purpose and although a bit basic they appear quite good value to me. We are in exactly the same predicament as you, Zhengqian. Currently have a Qashqai +2 diesel with a 60 plate and looking to sell it before ULEZ kicks in. Been considering another Qashqai because of its quality vs problems. It has been problem free for us for the past 6 years. Was just a Nissan dealership last weekend and was told there has been a huge backlog of new car orders and we're likely not going to have a car that is ULEZ compliant until Q1 2022. We may have to settle for a used Toyota Prius for the time being. -- familiar with the idiom "Ride a donkey while looking for horse"? 骑驴找马0

Whats wrong with Prius?
Toyota have a better reliability record than Nissan.0 -

What if you have a Euro 5 in Diesel and it's a private family car, is there a ULEZ charge for that?AdrianC said:Remember... for diesels, the ULEZ cutoff is Euro6, ~2014, but for petrols, it's Euro4, ~2005.Save £12k in 2019 #154 - £14,826.60/£12kSave £12k in 2020 #128 - £4,155.62/£10k0
