When can we start broadband switch

Hi,
We are currently with Vodafone for broadband and our contract is ending in 3 weeks, they are not offering anything to stay and I have tried asking twice when I can start a switch but never received a direct answer, would anyone on here have any ideas when I can start it without incurring penalties?
I don't want to wait until the contract ends as I understand vodafone will then put us onto an automatic rolling contract that sounds difficult to get out of.

I have also been looking at the moneysavingexpert broadband deals thing and one from shell energy shows a £75 bill credit offer but that is not on the shell energy web site, is the offer just for people going via the moneysavingexpert system?

You can switch whenever you like, but there is no penalty free switching window like you see in energy.  So if your contract ends on August 15th, and you move away before that date, early exit fees will apply, although they are pro-rated up to the end date so we're not talking hundreds of pounds by this point.

Please read the Shell comments on here first .
MSE deals are via MSE web site .
Rolling contract is 30 days with 30 days notice , not difficult to get out of .
  • I found some info saying that a switch generally takes two weeks so I'm guessing they could only use the date of the actual change over to base any possible charges on and not the date the switching process is started.
Thanks for the tip about checking Shell, Plusnet looks favourite but their current offer ends next wednesday so would have to chance it.
I think I would like to be leaving vodafone before the rolling contracts start if they have to be given notice as they are not keen on answering phone calls and the people on 'chat' are not too helpful.

If you are moving from one BT line provider to another you don't speak to the losing provider, in this case Vodafone.  You just sign up with Plusnet (or whoever) and they'll do all the work.
