Hi, I have 2 teenagers (under 15) wanting to earn money.
They're on the waiting list for a paper round.
But they've come up with a business plan which involves food and would stick to the 12 hours they're allowed to work a week.
My question is, how would the money they earn affect me and my benefits?
(I'm a carer on income support)
I have no idea where to start.
Many thanks for any advice

It will not affect any of your benefits.

Any money your children earn does not affect your benefits.Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.0

Thank you for your replies 💜
Can I just check that's the same if they don't work for someone? Ie they start their own business0 -
It makes no difference how they earn their money, it still has no affect on any of your benefits. At that age they are still in full time non advanced education, so you should be claiming child benefit for them.

I posted something else related to this in another section.
Someone mentioned DWP might class my involvement as self employed? (driving them to and from location and watching while they're there) but not taking any money.
Do you think this may be the case?0 -
For the benefit of others the other thread from the OP is here. https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6286328/teenagers-starting-a-business#latestI have no idea how this would work. Although you state you will take no money from them i do not know whether DWP would think otherwise. Others maybe able to advise you further.Although as others have suggested i don't think this is going to be as easy as you may think and they are both under 15.

Yes that's what I'm worries about.
I can't get my head around it all.
They just want to make money
I just want to help them on their way
Is this possible without it affecting me
How do I get a clear answer 🙈0 -

            Not sure about insurance yet.
Food hygiene level 2 - they researched this afternoon that they can complete this course at their age0
