Virgin Mobile to axe pay-as-you go services from 2022 - what it means for its 123,000 customers

  • Unlike some others I did not receive any notification from Virgin until just before Christmas. They have led me to believe that I can only reclaim the credit on my account if I switch to a pay monthly account with them or sign up with O2, neither of which appeals. When I queried this with them they sent me a gobbledegook letter in pseudo-English (an extract will give the flavour: 'we totally agree your dissatisfaction towards this matter since the service is very important' ). Has anyone else successfully retrieved their outstanding balance from the company?

    So what I did.

    1) Ensured the number was registered to my virgin mobile account. (had to do this over 6 months ago when they tried to cancel the SIMs

    2) Requested a PAC code (so I can transfer my number elsewhere). Text PAC then dateofbirth format 01/01/1980 to  65075.

    3) Rang them up yesterday and asked for my credit back. I provided a debit card number. They should be giving my credit back on that, (4 days) Took 21 mins on the phone!

    4) Gave my new provider the pack code.
