Then I can look into a broadband provider such as Plusnet. You as a customer do not talk to Openreach, you cannot talk to Openreach, Openreach only deal with the ISPs.Pick a provider, give them your address, sign up and they'll liaise with Openreach to do whatever is needed to get a/the line reactivated/installed to your property. If there is a line there that just doesn't work it may be just a case of being reactivated on the exchange most likely remotely, done in two seconds with no need for anybody to come round.iniltous said:Exactly as NJ states, if you have identified a provider that can provide you with broadband (with or without a phone service ) for £20/month , and you want to go for it, you sign up with them ( not OR ) , the ISP may charge you if work has to be done to get the old line that exists back into service, you may want to check with the ISP how much this could cost , as the first bill could be £20 for ‘broadband’ and anywhere upto £100 or more to get the line ‘installed’0

"There are some great broadband deals available that don't require a phone line."
https://www.broadbandgenie.co.uk/broadband/without-a-phone-line
Does this mean that this type of deal simply mean that you wouldn't have a phone number and be able to make/receive telephone calls?
Presumably, I would still require a physical Openreach (BT line) telephone network line or else how would the internet connection be made?
With this type of deal, would I still need to have a BT contract to pay monthly line rental (even though I don't require a functioning landline)? We have broadband without a phone line - we use a WISP service from Airband which works well (most of the time!)Just for fun, I clicked on the link and the top result offered me Vodafone at 63Mbps, so, I followed it through to be told what we already knew ....Sorry, we can't get broadband to your address
which is why we use a WISP service!!0 -

You can get broadband over a traditional "BT" line without a voice service. Still have to pay line rental, of course, but with no facility to make or receive calls. None of the big ISPs offer this but it is available.

I seem to recall its not offered mainstream because of the need to provide access to the emergency services, which makes it universal in areas of patchy mobile signal. Although that being said, if you don't plug a phone in anyway its immaterial, and the agreement with the mobile phone providers is if their network is the strongest signal your phone can get when you call 999/112 they'll route the call anyway regardless of whether you're a customer or not. Pretty sure Childline was/is the same, though back in the days when 0800 numbers were chargeable from mobiles, Childline was one of the exceptions to this rule.

BT have 'Broadband only'What is Broadband only?
If you don’t use your landline phone, Broadband only lets you have the broadband you want without the landline you don’t. However, you won’t be able to make or receive any incoming calls on your landline phone. This includes calls to the emergency services.
Is that not what is being asked about?

Is that not what is being asked about?Yes but experience may vary by location. I just bashed my postcode in and got quoted £27.99 no landline..Yet I can jump on a comparison site and see (for first result) Shell for £21.99 line rental and broadband, no calls included. Even if I add all inclusive calls I can get it for £23 from Now.Adding a phone line with the link provided bumps my price up to £32.99 from BT. The offering may beat Virgin's broadband only by a good margin, but one can beat both of them with a "normal" line+broadband option.0
