Wool underlay

Same here. I moved a large reclining armchair recently and found a bald patch on the carpet underneath it about 3 inches square. I only move this chair every couple of months as it is so heavy. I moved every piece of furniture that I could to check and found a smaller area under a large Hi Fi cabinet. I had not realised that 100% wool carpets were prone to moths or I would not have bought them. They are only 4 years old and cost quite a lot of money too.RedFraggle said:Since having a clothes moth infestation brought in by a wool containing carpet I would never, ever, consider wool.1 -
Off topic, but we've had great sucess at getting rid of our moth problem with those adhesive moth traps: https://amzn.eu/d/fUQMgxp
They seem to work best tucked behind the sofa/furniture, in a darker spot.2 -
Mine cost me £2500. It was bad. Full on pesticide treatment then follow up with parasitic wasps. Just awful.Emmia said:Off topic, but we've had great sucess at getting rid of our moth problem with those adhesive moth traps: https://amzn.eu/d/fUQMgxp

There were moths in my current property when I bought it too but as it was empty the vendor kindly stripped out the carpets ahead of completion. I have lovely lovely 100% synthetic carpets now.
Think I'm scarred for life 🤣Officially in a clique of idiots1 -
We have a fairly thick 12mm sponge type underlay under a brand new wool carpet in the living room, the 'give' in the underlay, I am convinced, has allowed the carpet backing to stretch and the wool pile to flatten under furniture, because of the indentations we are unable to relocate furniture, despite all our attempt the pile will not recover, if there is a next time I will revert to wool felt underlay or near equivalent0

The sums of money are extraordinary, but I'm now massively put off any idea of wool insulation.0 -
They do not have to be 100% wool to be bothered by carpet moths.millie said:

The typical 80% wool mix can also be affected.0
