Has anyone used wool underlay?
I need new carpets throughout the house, I normally use cloud 9 underlay. However I have seen 10mm wool underlay online which is 3rd of the price. Has anyone used this? Is it any good?

You mean the wool felt type of underlay?
It's perhaps not as cushioning as PU foam but still does a good job and quite often is preferred for traditional wool carpets. Be careful not to get sucked into the price aspect though, you can buy PU foam underlay that's the 3rd of the price but that doesn't mean it's any good. A cheap underlay is a cheap underlay regardless of what it's made of.3 -
We have wool felt underlay in lounge, stairs and landing area and it does an excellent job. It won't disintegrate like rubber backed underlay can.

I have it in 2 bedrooms. Having removed old underlay that had literally turned to dust, I was prepared to try something new. The fitter had not used it before and found it quite difficult to cut, but was impressed with the end result. It is under quite a cheap carpet but gives it a very sumptuous feel and seems to have quite good soundproofing. I'd definitely use it again.

Not sure of the brand, but I bought it from an Ebay shop - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/254351237491?ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT&_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649

This https://www.axminstershop.co.uk/axfelt-triple-layer-underlay went under our lounge & stair carpet over 10yrs ago, still going strong & a good insulator.

I got given some wool underlay a few years ago and it was useless. it went pancake flat in the high traffic areas in 2 years. I buy and fit 10m super contract underlay in my rental houses because it's a tried and tested brand, it doesn't flatten in a year like the really cheap foam, and it has a shiny outer surface so if somebody stains a carpet the underlay will still be ok if it's got a shiny membrane it can just be wiped clean with some bleach & water and then just fit a new carpet
I don't think wool will do the same thats probably why it's a 1/3 of the price1 -
Used wool as I wanted a high tog, thick underlay. Delighted with result, but also because it recovers from furniture imprints better than other underlays I have used.
(I don't remember it being significantly cheaper though)0 -
10mm is a good thickness. Can recover well. Often more dense/firmer than foam ones https://www.underlay4u.co.uk/carpet-underlays/lion-50-carpet-felt-underlay.html-1

Since having a clothes moth infestation brought in by a wool containing carpet I would never, ever, consider wool.Officially in a clique of idiots0
