Debt collection search

Just logged into my equifax account and it says I've had a debt collection search at my current address in the last 24 months.
I've never been in any debt or had any CCJ's. I live with my partner and moved in 7 months ago. I'm on the electoral register at the address also.
My partner does have CCJ against her name but why does this affect my credit report? It's nothing to do with me surley this can't be right.

It surely can be right. It could be debt collectors looking for a debtor with a similar name as yourself.
If you have no outstanding defaulted debt, there's nothing to worry about.
Your partner's CCJ only affects you if you're financially associated.1 -
OK well I had to ask because my credit score has gone down since last month and I've not got any more credit and continued to pay everything I owe which is only a loan.
What could include being financially associated?0 -
That's fine. Your credit score has no more to do with your credit than your horoscope does.
Being financially associated means having joint financial products.1 -
The only thing that we have which is joint is Universal Credit which is paid into my account.
So what's the point in the score being there then?0 -
Say a DCA is looking for a Mr Smith in Leeds, they will run searches on all Mr Smiths in the area, in order to try and trace the one they are after, that`s how tracing works, it has no detrimental effect whatsoever for you.
Your credit score changes with the wind, its not an indication of your credit worthiness, please read the stick thread at the top of this forum "what your credit score really means" for clarification.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. You can ask to get it removed if it’s a hard search I believe. If there’s no debt related to you then they have no right to search your file or leave an imprint.
If it’s a soft search then it doesn’t matter0
