Guttering installation quote - is this a rip off

Hi there,

Wondered if anyone could give me some advice. I asked a local roofing company for a quote to replace guttering. They came out week after and I got a quote through post. They quoted £6,227 for fitting guttering and soffit boards. Didn’t ask for the soffits to be replaced and even so I don’t think  this quote is right anyhow. It is for pvc guttering and downpipes and pvc soffits. 

Is this right? Seems really steep.

How big is the house, and how easy is access to the existing guttering?  Scaffolding will have to be erected on all sides and that is a considerable cost.

Thanks thought that was the case. Maybe they are quoting high so that they can haggle it down to a lower but still over the top price.

I agree with DB, it's not a difficult job unless there's something unusual about tt.
I wouldn't even begin to haggle from that base.
Get 3 quotes if you can with the way things are.
They should all be similar to each other.
Ask neighbours, friends and work colleagues but don't tell them you've had a quote.

Got quoted around that price to have gutters & facia done on my 3-bed semi. The price included scaffolding and stripping/refelting the roof.

£2K for a bungalow would still be on the steep side, but over £5K is taking the proverbial.

That seems extortionate.

I have a Victorian semi and needed scaffolding all the way around.  The scaffolding cost about a grand.

The materials were cheap and it only took me a day to replace the guttering (I'd not done it before).

Obviously your quote was for PVC boards and soffits, but that wouldn't cover the difference.

Agree with previous posts well overpriced it should be half that price at least. Plus if you only want gutters / downpipes then thats even cheaper. Get another quote don't bother with the roofer.

We paid about £800 for the front and back of our five bed end terraced house. This was just for the gutters and included new wooden fascia boards, but not soffits . The work was done about four years ago.
