You may have your answer. By the sounds of it, the Zigbee signal has to pass through two walls and no doubt some insulation.Deleted_User said:
Plastic and gas is.on the wall round the corner[Deleted User] said:What sort of meter boxes do you have? Metal is a Zigbee killer. Many IHDs will not work in homes with metal-backed insulation. So what can I do ?Do I have to ask for a dumb meter to be refitted - because the smart meter has no display0 -
The gas meter does not show a continuous display to save battery life. You have to press one of the buttons on the meter to access a reading. What make and model of gas meter do you have?0

From. Octopus..
"The gas and electric need to be no more than 10 meters a part with as little obstacles in-between as possible!
We are still working on connecting to your meter and will hopefully be able to diagnose any issues and do this as soon as possible."
What can they do except for the moving my meters (which wioukd be e difficult /impossible)
SMART app works fine

I can 100% guarantee that no supplier is going to move your meters. This work is done by the DNO or a gas transporter at cost to you.Deleted_User said:From. Octopus.."The gas and electric need to be no more than 10 meters a part with as little obstacles in-between as possible!

And therein lies one of the problems with the Smarts project. A lot of houses in the last 15 years ,have been built with external gas meters sometimes "buried" in a metal box outside the front door whilst the leccy meter is inside or on a side wall perhaps. Communications between the gas meter and the hub can be problematic !!![Deleted User] said:

if you have a broadband connection why can't the SM2 meter readings be sent via that? I have intermitant readings; I live in Cardiff but in a house with coal cement which I believe blocks mobile signals.
My mobile is Virgin (?O2) and is very weak or absent within the house. I understand from another poster that the SM2 uses O2 signals to receive data - hey ho - what should I do?0 -
Not secure enough to meet the system requirements, and also dependent on you maintaining your broadband service, not changing router passwords etc.PennyForThem_2 said:if you have a broadband connection why can't the SM2 meter readings be sent via that? My house is 70 years old !The electricity meter is in the porch - the gas meter is in a box round the side of the house. What do others do in this situation ? revert to the original non-smart meter ?Because I cannot take readings from a dumb smart meter !0
