Architraves and Skirting Boards

I am doing some building works and puzzled with architraves and skirting boards. I would like to go for chamfered option however the suppliers I found so far including Howdens are saying that they cant do high ones which I need for hallways. Hallways need around 250mm height.

So, where is the best place to buy good quality skirting boards, all will be chamfered and white once finished. I prefer pre finished ones.

Any skirting you can think of!

Tall skirting boards are traditionally ornate as they tend to be in period houses with taller ceilings.    You're pretty unusual to want 250mm bullnose skirting in a hallway, I have to say... in a modern house the stuff that Howdens supply is what the majority of people want/need.

  • Just want to add hang your doors before you fit your architrave you can make adjustments to the linings if it isn’t fitted.

Problem with wide bits of timber is distortion - You bring a nice flat & straight bit of timber inside, leave it for a few days, and it will twist and cup. Some sources are worse than others for this.
One of two options if it must be 250mm - Build it up out of narrower strips or use MDF (ugh). Just don't use uPVC...

  • it seems that B&Q has the following one.
    White MDF Chamfered Architrave (L)2.18m (W)69mm (T)18mm | Tradepoint (trade-point.co.uk)

how many I need for 1 door?

and what about the with, it seems that 18 and 14.5 options available...
  • Two and a half each side, it needs to be the same width as your skirting, personally I would go with 18mm

  • 2.5 half each side?
L is  2.18 m. So, I assume one length each side, and a third one for the top right ? I believe each side needs to be full without any connection?
  • how many I need for 12 doors?

    2.5 x 12 = 30 pieces assuming you don’t mess it up

  • which one is better to go ? softwood or mdf?
  • I’m going to get shot for this but mdf all day long, no knots or shakes, primed and your skirting will follow the wall.
