    Factory reset of what?

When my (HP) printer occasionally does this I simply switch it off then switch it back on again and that seems to cure it ... until the next time.

Are you connecting to your printer via WiFi?

The key questions are how is it connected and what is it cinnected to and how are you trying to print to it?

It is connected wirelessly to my laptop and I am not sure how to answer this    how are you trying to print to it?
When I now go into devices and printers and click on the printer it say's Default  Offline. Why would it go offline as I was using it last night and my wife used it as she had run out of ink on her printer I have turned it off and on and turned the router and the printer off for 30 seconds but it did not make any difference.Thank's for the replies by the way much appreciated.

Thanks for clarifying. Offline simply means it is not connected. Obviously there could be a myriad of reasons why this is so. If it were me, I would connect the printer directly to my laptop via eg a usb cable and just check it is still working.

I have just connected the printer to the laptop using a USB lead and I got a message all set up and ready to use but when I tried to print it still said Printer Offline. Will remove the USB lead and try another one but dont expect any miracles.Maybe the printer needs replacing have had it about seven years.

Have you been through the steps in the Brother online support pages?

    https://www.brother.ee/support/dcpj315w/faqs/how-to-trouble-shooting/faq00003032_009

A lot of it is the (horribly complicated) Windows device config stuff and nothing in there says "the printer's buggered, get a new one".

If you still have the WiFi connection for the printer as your default then connecting via USB will make no difference - you'd need to select the USB connection. (If you look in Devices and Printers you'll probably see two versions of your printer - one WiFi and one USB).
