  • I never flew on Ryan Air on the day due to the strong over whelming advice to protect HIM, HIS family , His friends , His pilots and crew, the airport staff, the Spanish folks and my family and friends too. If Mr Ryan Air gives me a refund I will happily book a flight after we are all safe. I am double jabbed and am happy to wear a mask on his flight , I am happy to book extra things as I did previously,
Please Mr Michael refund me and I will not look up with un-smiling face when I see your Golden Harp Landing and taking off every day.
You run a flight service that needs to be safe and secure and you and your staff rely on being kept safe.
Until I get a refund I can not fly again.
please take note of this and consider the customers you may lose to rivals.
    best wishes

If you did not travel on a flight that operated you are not due a refund from the airline. You should look to see of your travel insurance covers the reason you could not travel. Insurance unlikely to cover change of mind so the money would be lost.

I don't think its as simple as that. There are many circumstances where flights were technically still flying but passengers couldn't board due to government restrictions.

I don't think either of us are sufficiently legally qualified to provide direct advice.

Which specific circumstances are you thinking of that would oblige an airline to refund passengers not boarding an operating flight, either due to government restrictions (not cited above) or scenarios relevant to the above poster, such as disinclination to travel, or whatever 'strong advice' they were referring to?
  • Have they actually got your money or are they just saying you owe it to them?

If they have your money it's very different and you can take steps to get it back. You won't be flying with them though.

Reasons are irrelevant - you chose not to fly so are not due a refund.
You booked with a bargain bucket carrier so can’t expect gold plate customer service I’m afraid!

It being against foreign office advice is pretty serious don't you think?

You seem to be conflating multiple issues here - this is about refund obligations on airlines, not the decision process about whether or not to board flights.

Advice is just that, leaving the decision up to the individual, unlike firm rules.

However, even when there were actual legally-binding lockdown rules prohibiting travel, they prevented most passengers from boarding flights, but that still didn't impose any obligation on airlines to refund if the flights were still operating.

Hi all,   I put some Ryan air flights into dispute a year ago which Amex investigated and supported my claim.  I got the cost of the flights refunded -Ryan Air did not provide enough evidence to overturn the dispute.  We are about to travel with Ryan Air again this summer and they have recharged me for the cost of these same disputed flights - I can't travel with them until I repay for the flights we couldn't take, it was against foreign office guidance to travel.    Anybody experienced anything similar - and what might be our rights here?   Thanks very much, JC
You still owe if the flight went, i was due to travel to Ukraine, unfortunately entry requirements prevented this, the flight went i just claimed off travel insurance.
