I recently opened a fraud case because there’s a transaction from a company that I don’t recognize. They have taken payments before but I made those payments. However the payment taken at the start of this month it wasn’t me as I was in hospital at the time. I raised the dispute over the phone but for some reason the bank has raised the dispute for other payments that was made even though I’ve told the bank I know what those payments are it’s just this one payment wasn’t me due to me being in hospital at the time. Could this whole thing be to do with the fraud case I’ve recently opened?
Perhaps this case has followed the wrong route within the bank - many posters refer to 'fraud cases' when it's really simply an unauthorised transaction (which may or may not relate to fraud).  The fact that the bank have raised it as relating to your authorised payments as well as the unauthorised one would suggest that there's been a misunderstanding, and if the merchant can clearly demonstrate that you authorised payment (for the first two) and the bank believes that you're claiming that you didn't, then this could lead the bank to thinking that you're the one being fraudulent....
How can I get the issue sorted though as the bank are the ones that have put through the wrong thing? It is for only one payment and I’ve always said this and told multiple staff members since. Yet now my account is blocked. I really don’t know what to do as I don’t want to be made out like I’m the one being fraudulent? I really don’t need the stress I have no access to any money and I’m at home with a newborn and one year old. Anytime I phone the bank they are telling me there’s nothing they can do with the account being blocked
Has there been any indication that the block is related to the dispute or is that just supposition?

In terms of the dispute, it can't do much harm to write to them spelling out exactly what you are and aren't disputing, rather than relying on verbal conversations, although calls should be recorded anyway, so make a note of when you spoke to them, which may come in useful at some point.

As far as the block is concerned, banks have obligations under anti money laundering legislation, which means that they can't discuss such blocks with you, frustrating though that undoubtedly is, so all you can do is wait for their investigation to complete, supplying them with anything they ask for along the way.  If it gets to the point where you're genuinely in hardship, i.e. unable to buy food or pay critical bills, then they should release some money for such purposes.

The bank need to investigate the fraud claim.

How do you know the bank are   investigating the three payments?

the bank have told you can withdraw money that is wages of benefits so you can get money.

Did you contact the company to query the payment taken?

No nothing. I just thought it might of been to do with that as the case has not long been opened.

I’ve opened a complaint with Barclays about it, as I’ve spoken to multiple staff members telling them it was only for one transaction yet no one has informed the team that are investigating it. So fingers crossed that will help.

Thank you for the advice. I am hoping they can release some money soon. I live no where near a branch, and I don’t drive (also still recovering from giving birth) and the money that is currently in my account isn’t wages or benefits just a refund from apple. But I need that money to just buy some essential bits like nappies and I don’t have any family support I can rely on

Banks usually only suspend/block your accounts if they suspect Fraud Money Laundering using a personal account for business which usually means you broke there T&C's the block will have nothing to do with your Dispute at all

They are legally not allowed to tell you why they blocked your account, all you can do is supply them with the correct info to prove you done nothing wrong,

All you gotta do is wait for them to finish the review (Could be days weeks or months) and hopefully you've done nothing wrong, they might let u get cash out of branch to help cover the essential bills food/stuff for your child etc,

Best to do SAR Check ASAP for CIFAS Markers and check your credit files.

Has anyone sent you money recently or given you cash to pay into the bank?

Good luck hope you get it sorted soon

Of course they can.  It's only if money laundering is suspected that they can't, although freezing someone's account is clearly tipping them off so who knows?

No they haven’t said it’s linked to the fraud case I just assumed it was that.

The only other thing I can think off is that I sold some Wi-fi equipment that we didn’t need anymore to someone on Facebook. I sent it to them with tracking. Royal Mail claim it’s been delivered but the person is arguing it’s not. He’s threatened involvement from the police, and getting his bank involved to get his money back. I’ve explained to him I was in hospital at this point giving birth and I don’t have the money just to refund him and I’ll open a case with Royal Mail if he’s claiming the parcel is missing. Yet since then he’s called me a scam and told me karma will come and get me. I don’t know if he’s opened a case against me but if he has done for a missing parcel so a chargeback claim could that put my account under review? I’ve reported this person for the threats he has made towards me, I haven’t tried to scam him and provided a tracking number to him aswell as been responding to his messages

With regards to money laundering I have no large sums going in or no cash being put in. Also there is no CIFAS on my account I’ve just checked online. My account has been blocked for a week now so would one already be applied to my account if it’s only been a week of the review?

Barclays have also claimed at one point they randomly review anyone’s account and it can be for no reason

I have a strong feeling that Barclays putting your account under review is to do with this. The buyer has potentially reported to his bank that he has been scammed, which has ultimately lead to the situation you are in now.

If you can provide evidence that Royal Mail have delivered the item you should be fine. Co operate with any requests for information Barclays ask for.

They wouldn’t just randomly block and review your account for no reason. However they do not have to tell you the reason why they have done that, and in some cases they aren’t legally allowed to give you the reason

This sounds as if you are in financial difficulties regardless of whether the Barclays account is blocked or not. Into which account does your child benefit get paid into? If the father of the children isn't paying, ask your citizens advice for help

If the item was shipped by a signed for recorded service then the Royal Mail will have irrefutable evidence that it was.
