Freezer Broken - how to make use of food

Options
My freezer has just broken down, it’s very old and not worth fixing but there will be a delay in getting a new one so I know there is no way of keeping food frozen until new one turns up.

I’m trying to be as savvy as possible by saving what I can, I’m thinking of cooking the following but don’t know how long it will last in Tupperware in fridge, any advice appreciated;

pizza

vegetable crispbakes

quorn nuggets

battered cod

pasta bake sauces

Frozen edamame beans - these I would defrost in Tupperware in fridge but don’t know how long they will remain fresh.

I have tubs of Hagen Daz ( I know not exactly money saving), melted in fridge how long would it be safe for?(thinking instead of yogurts/mouse)

I also have cubed frozen avocado (it was bought frozen…..if I blend in lime juice how long will that likely be good in the fridge?

Any advice appreciated, I know I could just bin it but hate wasting food lol

Do you have any friends to whom you could farm out some of the cooked food to re-freeze it?

Otherwise, it's the sniff test - does it still smell good? I'm sure the Hagen Daz will be good for several days ...

Focus on the food that is more important to you. If you have something you like / costs more then use that rather than let it go to waste. You may loose some items but it hurts less to chuck food you're less bothered about.
Soup or stew is an idea? You could freeze that when you get a new freezer.
Or as a radical suggestion scrap the whole breakfast is this, lunch is this and dinner is this and use whatever the freezer gives.
I often had meals that some would consider a dinner for breakfast when I lived alone.
May you find your sister soon Helli.

  • Are you able to pick up a freezer. I bought a really nice one on gumtree for £10. The guy was a student and just needed rid of it -wasn’t that old either.

If you’re lucky you might have a fridge later today.
  • better to just pick up a freezer

Can you just leave things in it - they won't thaw immediately.  And don't dally when you do open it to retain the cold as long as possible.  You could pick up some bags of ice from Lidl etc to sling in to keep things frosty.
