I wasnt sure where to put this ....interesting situation ...Notice of Enforcement.

So...Jacobs Enf Agents....unpaid Council Tax £1500

I lived at a place adjacent to a Pub in the Village for about 18 months....2014/15.

Over the weekend a received above enforcement notice.I have been worried  about it all weekend but at the back of my mind  knew it wasnt me.I rang today and Jacobs confirmed the debt was 2020/2021 unpaid tax.Obviously nothing to do with me.

My hunch is the occupants who ran up the debt have been impersonating me ....after probably finding a piece of old mail. The Landlady is a friend and mentions those people have left with considerable rent debts too.

How serious trouble would the debtors be in if I'm right ??

What other debts do you think these people may have taken on in your name?

How did the enforcement notice reach you?

Can you write to the Council with your proof of moving out of the property in 2015?  That should start the process of getting the Council Tax for 2020/21 taken out of your name.
  • The enforcement notice was in the mail....The proof of movin out will come from the Landlady of the Pub.I believe it is  a serious offence impersonating someone(except if you are Joe Longthorne of course) ....Im not being harsh ....but I think a little stretch might put her off doing it again ??

The council will just want their tax paid. The cops are hardly likely to be interested.

The difference being because they haven’t stolen any money? Debt isn’t theft.

If you shoplifting these days the result is more likely to be the store suing you than the police taking much interest.
