Annoying sidebar

I must have missed that vote - where and when was it held?
I actually don't mind the sidebar. And now I'm used to the improved forum, I don't dislike it. Am I an anomaly?
Please note - taken from the Forum Rules and amended for my own personal use (with thanks) : It is up to you to investigate, check, double-check and check yet again before you make any decisions or take any action based on any information you glean from any of my posts. Sorry, wrong choice of word perhaps, but in one of the rare acknowledgements of punter's dissatisfaction one of the MSE team commented that they were working on moving it back to the right after many requests.

If it was a floating sidebar (i.e. it scrolled down the page as you do) then the space on the left wouldn't be totally wasted. Likewise if they move it to the right.
If they do move it to the right then there's no reason why threads/posts below the bottom of the sidebar can't stretch to use the space underneath it. (Having it on the left makes such a scheme less workable - it wouldn't look right since we read from left to right).
Plus they should use the full available width of the screen ... notwithstanding the sidebar, having lots of wasted space on the left and right is utterly pointless. Unless you read this forum on a tablet in portrait mode, anyone reading this forum on a computer will be using widescreen, landscape mode monitors.Jenni x2 -

And yes, exactly. Shift to the right and full width of the screen (whether fixed or floating) would allow me to use the site as designed.1 -
It was a two-week sabbatical.Jenni x0

That appears to be the way "modern" websites are laid out - I have a window which is full of pale green filler and as an afterthought shows two one-line posts.

Hi Forumites,
We wanted to say a massive thank you for all of the feedback you’ve given us over the last 10 days.
Some of the key things you’ve mentioned are the blank space on the left-hand side, the font size, the view on different devices and the bookmark icon overlapping – all of which we’re prioritising to find solutions for… watch this space!
It's impossible to reply to each of you who've provided us with feedback and not everything will be changed immediately, but don't worry, we've listened and noted everything down 👍.
We’re also going to be prioritising the issues raised by the Compers over the coming months. As always, thank you for patience with this.
Now we’ve captured a lot of the feedback, we will be closing this thread permanently.
But don’t forget, the feedback form is still here if there’s anything else you spot!
All the best,
MSE Laura
