I was going to purchase a new iPhone 12 from the Apple store tomorrow as a present for my daughter. Apple store price £799. I have seen the same phone on sale at my local Currys/PCW for £679.00, a saving of £120.00. Should I be aware off any difference or issues. I have been informed by Currys that they are an official Apple Reseller, buy with a £120.00 difference, I alway think of the old business saying "there's no such thing as a free lunch".

See also John Lewis who tend to price match the other outlets and offer a longer warranty period.

Nb iPhones don’t include earphones or chargers now!

NB there are contracts that include generous SIM deals costing little more than the device itself over 2 or 3 years.

Eta Would your daughter qualify for the 20% student discount through Apple?

Thanks Coffeehound, really appreciate your reply and input. My daughter is too old now ha ha. Unfortunately John Lewis are out of stock, but their two year warranty deals are very good.  I did go onto the Curry's Business section and found that they are showing as a Authorised Apple Reseller. Then checked the official Apple reseller list and they were showing on there too. So happy to make the purchase now. Thanks again.

Many on here would not buy from Currys as they do not understand/ignore Consumer Rights .

Just be aware that Currys only give you a 1 year warranty whereas you get 2 years buying online from the Apple istore.

CORRECTION - it's been pointed out that you need to purchase Apple Care to get the 2 years so ignore my comment. I had found 2 years somewhere on their website but I can't find it now!

Not according to the Apple web site. You only get 2 years with the addition of Apple Care.

Oddly enough, a friend took a UK purchased 18 month old iPad to a Spanish Apple Store and was told it was covered for 2 years across the EU. It was replaced while she waited. It didn’t have the additional Apple Care and was purchased from a high street shop.

Apple need to make the 2 year EU warranty apply in the UK…

That’s not how i see it.

The eu law is a consumer law not a manufacturer law. The UK consumer laws come into force so Apple should not be adhering to EU but UK laws.

now if they want to introduce a 2 year manufacturing warranty they can but that is just PR and is in no way a reflection of quality of product or how good their service is if your product develops a fault.

Because a manufacturers warranty is not a quantifiable measure of how good a product is. It’s just a voluntary customer service commitment to look at your device within the first or second year and fix any defect with the product that is related to the manufacturing process. Which also means you could add any amount of restrictions in the terms and conditions of that voluntary warranty.

To me the customer what is a measure of good quality is how long the product performs over the time I have it in my possession, coupled with the customer support given if any issues arise.

So for example if I had bought a phone from the same company twice over a 6 year period that both failed in the 3rd year then the 2 year warranty is meaningless and I would come to the conclusion that the quality of product from the company is rubbish and I would not buy my 3rd phone from them.

A phone with a 1 year warranty that lasts 5 years is better than a phone with a 2 year warranty that lasts 3 years. The warranty period has no relevance on the useful life of the product.
