Grohe Shower Heads and shower value plates

Hi,

I was looking for Grohe shower heads and Grohe shower valves. Read few reviews and discovered that the are not metal but plastic. I called up Grohe, and they have confirmed that their shower heads and valves are made of ABS/ pastic. Anyone has feesback if its OK to have Grohe or should I consider some other brand ?

    Crosswater is my go-to brand.

I did a huge renovation and restoration of a house and an interior designer before me specified a Grohe valve in one bathroom before I took over.  They moved in over 5 years ago and the only valve in the entire house to have had a problem yet is that Grohe valve.

If you're on a budget, you're better off asking a local independent plumbers merchant what lasts.  They'll have unbranded contract ranges that they sell on a daily basis to the trade.  They know what gets returned and what doesn't!

Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

We have Grohe taps, showers and valves in our barn conversion.  They are now 17 years old and [touch wood] still going strong.  We replaced the kitchen tap but that was purely down to aesthetics.   The shower valves have been excellent and we've put them in holiday cottages too.  Visitors remark on how wonderful the showers are (yes I know part of that is the water pressure).

I fitted a Grohe in my house about 10 years ago and it's still going strong and I'd have another. The valve body on mine is brass but the hand held shower head is composite (plastic) - I've never come across a mixer shower valve that does not have a brass body so I'd be interested to know which one you are looking at. The odd thing about Grohe is despite their excellent quality I don't think their warranty period is over long.

Hans Grohe is a separate company and part of the Bristan stable and they are good. Vado operate under this brand name and others and their customer service is excellent and I think they have a 10 year warranty. Mira is another excellent quality brand and in the past I've been able to buy parts from them to repair 25 year old shower valves.

Sorry I can't think of anything profound, clever or witty to write here.

I installed Grohe toilet cistern and flush that had an ABS "chrome" surround and I have been very impressed with how it has held up. It still looks brand new after five years.

I've not been so impressed with a Bristan tap where the chrome has become pitted over the same five year period.
The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.

I have looked around and Mira also has ABS Chrome plates. I was just hesitant with the ABS plastic but now since there are 3-4 positives about Grohe, I will go with this.

@NSG666 I am looking to install GROHE 34705000 Round Grohtherm Smart Control Perfect Set with Rain Shower 310. The valve plate is definitely ABS plastic as I called up Grohe to confirm

tacpot12 I had chrome pealed off from my Bristan tap as well.

So much to read, so little time.
  • ABS plastics have been used on many shower parts for quiet a few years, nothing wrong with with the quality manufactures  <3

What does your installer think ?

I've not come across that particular valve so couldn't comment. It looks similar to the Hansgrohe iBox that I've fitted a few of - that one has a brass body and ABS construction and I've not heard of any problems with them.

Although Hansgrohe is now owned by Bristan comparing the two is like comparing an Audi to a Seat in the earlier days.
