Argos garden furniture melting .

I purchased Argos rattan effect garden furniture April 2019 , two years on the “rattan “ under the glass of the table is melting in places .
ps I have since looked online and have seen evidence that this fake rattan does indeed break down in the hot weather .
I have contacted Argos whom have informed me to pay for a qualified engineer to confirm that damage was caused due to a manufacturing fault .
I feel the amount of money I paid £600 ( currently on sale for £1000 Seychelles garden set) I would expect a few more years from the furniture .
My questions are how do I find a qualified engineer to inspect the table?
.Am I being fobbed off because it is out of warranty ? .

There was another post with the same issue.
Can you post some pictures of the damage?
As the previous one seemed to be due to sun being reflected onto the glass and like a magnifying glass melting the plastic coating.Life in the slow lane1 -
Just like their cheap sunbeds that only last 5 mins, and you can't get spare covers, you have to dump the whole thing0

Actually my parents have a rattan set and the table has also started disintegrating under the glass. I assume the glass acts like a greenhouse heating it up and causing it to melt/fail.
Giving the age, Argos are within their rights to ask you to commission a report to show it is a design fault. They will then have to pay for the report and repair/replace/(partial) refund (their choice).Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)1 -

Here is the damage from a few weeks ago . There are now 2 holes and chairs are sagging in the heat.

They do look like the result of focussed sunlight. If that's plastic, it won't get hot enough to melt just from being under glass, otherwise anything plastic would melt in a greenhouse or conservatory, so that looks like the result of magnified sunlight. It will either be caused by an imperfection in the glass (such as a bubble or chip) or something on or nearby the glass focussing the light. e.g. a glass of water.2

Looking at the photos, it seems odd that the damage is only in one place, rather than across multiple threads. Here's the thread mentioned above - with photos. The later replies seemed to support damage rather than faulty manufacture and the OP never responded after that.1
