I've been volunteering at a vaccination clinic alongside a public carpark where people have to enter their car registration numbers when buying a ticket. I frequently see people approach the machine, go back to their car to look at the number, and go back to the machine to key it in.If you keep the same number, whatever that may be, hopefully across a driving lifetime, you'll remember what it is.Make £2025 in 2025

You'd think that people would be able to remember seven characters for the minute it takes them to walk to the machine, wouldn't you?Slinky said:I've been volunteering at a vaccination clinic alongside a public carpark where people have to enter their car registration numbers when buying a ticket. That's always assuming they needed to look at it before walking away because it's a rental (but it's probably on the key fob) or they've just bought it, or whatever reason they don't actually know it...0 -

Well you would have thought so wouldn't you? I can remember all the car registrations I've had, my husband had and my dad had, but we don't change them often.

The more I think about vanity plates the more I think about it being about exclusivity. You can have your name on your windscreen for a fraction of the cost"The Holy Writ of Gloucester Rugby Club demands: first, that the forwards shall win the ball; second, that the forwards shall keep the ball; and third, the backs shall buy the beer." - Doug Ibbotson0

There you go, you can save yourself £250 and just put your name across your windscreen.dipsomaniac said:The more I think about vanity plates the more I think about it being about exclusivity. You can have your name on your windscreen for a fraction of the cost

I guess it probably demonstrates how "white goods" cars are for a lot of people. Just something they jump in to and drive and never really think too much about it.Slinky said:AdrianC said:

Reading this thread it's clear that the main reason people have vanity plates is because they can't remember a random 7 digits. I have 2 cars and a bike and can easily remember all 3 regular 7 digit plates"The Holy Writ of Gloucester Rugby Club demands: first, that the forwards shall win the ball; second, that the forwards shall keep the ball; and third, the backs shall buy the beer." - Doug Ibbotson0

On a serious note why is it that some people choose to pay serious money for a vanity plate when others would be embarrassed to be seen with one??"The Holy Writ of Gloucester Rugby Club demands: first, that the forwards shall win the ball; second, that the forwards shall keep the ball; and third, the backs shall buy the beer." - Doug Ibbotson0

@dipsomaniac
You seem quite obsessed by these so called vanity plates, If you really want one, nobodies stopping you, just get one.0 -
Is 250 the average cost of a vanity plate when 160 is the cheapest and MB1 or f1 probably the most expensive? A mate of mine paid 600+ for a mash up of his name where he tried to convince people a 1 was a I and a 5 was a s and his name is Chris not PEN15motorguy said:
