Apparently it somehow fits on to block the switch and stop the blade being extended by accident.  Somehow.

Thanks - I've tried - can't get it to stay in and be purposeful.  Just weird.

This might give you a clue - I think this was a previous model.

My guess is the one which was still taped on in the photo is the right way round lengthwise (the end near the cap stays near the cap), but it needs to be rotated 180 degrees so the side facing away from the blade fits into the slot.

That way the diagonal projection on the red part will fit into one of the diagonal slots on the body of the knife.

The 'red thing' is what happens to your finger if you get it wrong.

This is the wee red thing - comes wrapped up with the knife.

Is that it in the right place? If so, it's a 'lock' to stop the blade moving/retracting in use.
No, it's still wrapped up, once unwrapped it's loose.

Looks like it might be some sort of safety thingy, as suggested .... perhaps to keep the blades from slipping?

Stops the blade coming out when they post it to you or to stop the blade being exposed when it's in the shop. Once the clear plastic is removed it's scrap.

    Thanks folks

I'll try to fit it one more time and then scrap it.
Surely a wee instruction on the wrapping could be possible!

Why? You've bought a knife, not a toilet.
