Stanley knife

I bought a set of these
https://www.screwfix.com/p/stanley-knife-set-2-pack/4543x - very handy indeed but I can't work out how to snap off a blade section. They come with a funny wee red thing but there's no instructions about what this is for. There are a couple of illustrations on the back of the packet but they are not very clear.
Can anyone please tell me how to snap off a section of blade?

Hi thereAt one end - not the sharp end - pull the yellow bit at the top so it comes out.It has a slot in it.You push the slot over the blade, and snap it off. Then remove the snapped bit. Then put the yellow top bit back onto the end of the knife ready for the next time.I do hope that makes sense?Mind your fingers !2

Can't see the red thing.0

One wee thing to add - extend/retract the blade until just the section you want to snap off is showing, and no more - ie see the 'snap-off' lines on the blade? Well, have the chosen line just showing beyond the knife end, so that the snapping force is directed right on that line.1

The 'red thing' is what happens to your finger if you get it wrong.

You sat it on the knife in order to confuse me?! Well, I never...Sorry - no idea.0

Apparently it somehow fits on to block the switch and stop the blade being extended by accident. Somehow.
