Flapjack is another cheap and cheerful, but delicious snack to make….and quick and easy. I tend to use the Mary Berry recipe and just bake it for a little bit less than instructed so it’s less crunchy and more gooey.

WinterWarrior: I have a spare lemon and bottle of lemon juice so lemon drizzle cake it is. I'd forgotten about flapjack, I used to make it for our lunch boxes, it's an ideal sweet treat so that might be next!
On the courgette front today I'm going to try courgette fritters! I like courgettes and only have two plants but they are producing so many this year. I will probably freeze some to put into soup and stews in the winter. I have been giving them to my dds as well!
Yesterday I looked after 3 dgc, I don't mind helping out the dds as I know (from being a single parent) how difficult/expensive it is in the holidays, but it does wear me out, I slept really well last night and for a lot longer than normal!
No money spent on groceries but birthday present and cards posted from birthday/xmas account. I have different accounts set up for all different things, so I'm ready for them, I must admit the amount put in has gone down but I 'allow' the same amount for each person. It's the only way I can do it.
Housework done, washing out, cat fed (another lodger for this week whilst owners away), and accounts checked.
I will be going down the lottie to do a bit of watering in the tunnel soon and pick green beans ready for freezing, oh a courgette I bet!!!! Then I will be making my cake when I get back, so better get my coffee made and put in insulated cup to take with me and get going. Eldest dgd will let herself in and if I leave a list will do a few bits before I get back!

Today has been a good day for me. I slept well last night and the backache is just a twinge every now and again. Dgd came and took to the settee, whilst I got on with a few bits in the garden before the rain came.
When dgd had gone home I went to the lottie, watered the tunnel and picked courgettes, a cabbage, kale, green beans, cucumber, turnips and beetroot, quite a haul so I'm very happy. Some of it is being shared but nobody is having the kale and cabbage!
So after a bath and tea, telephone calls of dds (think they are checking up on me) I've got the knitting out and sorted a few bits for tomorrow.
Oh and no money spent out of any category, so happy.keep safe and well.

Another day not spending and I'm on my own for the rest of the weekend and rest of today!!
Pasta bowl made and eaten and for tonight's meal I will be using the rest of a courgette in something! Also making an apple crumble/sponge using some eating apples that are going a bit wrinkly.
Not planning on doing much over the weekend, just cleaning the house and collecting veg from lottie, boring really. Must find something more interesting to do, mind you I think rain has been forecast. I'm starting to miss going out places.
I see gas and electric prices are going up, so what with fuel, food etc rising, this cutting back drastically will no doubt have to continue, and staying in May become the norm!

Do you have some nice indoor hobbies for when it’s rainy? Not all who wander are lost - J.R.R.Tolkien

Hi there WinterWarrior I knit and sew. At the moment I'm knitting a sleeveless pullover for the autumn, I bought some Ald@ wool when it was offer, so using that up and after that I have some wool bought an age ago to make a jumper. And on the sewing front I'm just finishing a dress off that doesn't fit me but it has taught me how to sew collars, yokes and button holes that I haven't done before, I will keep it though as its just a bit tight in the tummy area and you never know I may lose some weight ... (in my dreams!!). I also enjoy embroidery and epp but have to be in the right mood.
No shopping today, this is all a bit surprising for me, I didn't realise how much stuff I had in, but I am eating some strange combinations, kale omelette anyone!! I have run out of bread, yogurt and I could do with buying some vinegar and sugar to make some jam and pickling so tomorrow may be the day for a food shop. Daughter1 dropped some eggs off last night so at the moment I have 30 eggs as dd3 gave me a some the other day so this week I will be baking, and eating eggy dishes!!
Breakfast: raspberry porridge
Lunch: kale omelette
Tea: bean casserole and LO Apple crumble
That's about it for this very rainy day, take care and enjoy

You have some great hobbies. I’m a new sewer and taught myself to quilt, but have never attempted dressmaking, so I’m impressed. I’m pondering learning to crochet. You need bread for some yummy french toast to use up some eggs 😀Not all who wander are lost - J.R.R.Tolkien

WinterWarrior : I hadnt thought of French toast, that's going on the list!
I'm thinking of shopping tomorrow as I have oldest dgc overnight then, and its somewhere to go for an hour! I was going today but it hasn't stopped raining and I have today's meals already.
It's going to be a busy week this week, I'm looking after dgd1 tomorrow, dgd2 Tuesday along with youngest dgs and eldest dgd, Wednesday. I have the 2 same girls again on Thursday, which is as also the day to take eldest into school to pick up her gcse results! And then on Friday I just have eldest again! It's a good job I love them all!! (Besides it helping dds out which is something I never had). Next week I only have youngest dgs on Tuesday and no others so I'm going to clean the house, rest and make another dress!! Finished the shirt dress today and made a couple of peg bags for family so I have already cut the next dress out so it's all ready and waiting.
So that's it for today.

Breakfast - a cup of coffee!
Lunch - fried rice and lots of veggies.
Tea- leftover bean stew from yesterday with Apple crumble to finish.£1 a day 2025: £90.00/365 Xmas fund1 -
Been food shopping - yay! Went to Ald- with a list and cash and spent the grand total of £26.45. So I'm very pleased with that. I bought quite a lot and worried it was going to cost a lot more so was very happy!! I even treated myself to a bit of choccie which I will have later in the week when I'm on my own and can enjoy it in peace!!
As it's been fine here, I managed to get all my laundry washed and dried outside, so it's already ironed and put away.
Eldest dgd is here and we've just had veggie spag bol (her choice) and garlic bread, so no visits from vampires tonight.
Still have to make sandwiches for tomorrow's lunch whilst babysitting, but won't take long, as I know exactly what we're having. So that's it for today.
Keep safe and well
