Makingabobar2 - for me growing vegetables are very much worth it. I enjoy the peace at the allotment, the fresh fruit and vegetables I know haven't got pesticides etc on them and I can pick them when needed so fresh as well. I've always grown some veggies so it must just be in me 😄

Just delurking to say hi, and how much I enjoy reading your posts! I got a bit worried when I realised I was nearly up to date and there hadn't been many recent posts, but here you are again so that's all right.
Congratulations to your DD! Do they have a date yet?
By the way, I planted some courgettes for the first time this year, having been inspired by your success last year. I left it late - a couple of weeks ago - but I have hopes they'll be through any day. My tomatoes are a complete failure this year, though, I think they drowned due to inadequate drainage but I've left the container there just in case they change their minds.
I'll continue to follow, if I may? I feel rather as though I know you and your family! (Is Not My Cat still around?)I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

I'm really sorry I haven't been on the boards lately, we'll probably a month or so. I don't have any excuses - all is well, the family are all well and most of my veggies are growing nicely!! Just sat outside mcds at the moment waiting for my dgd to finish work!! She should have finished at 2am but they are having to work until they finish!!! I've already said a few unsavoury words to them and they might be getting some more soon if she doesn't appear 😡
Anyway thought I'd do a bit of a catch up whilst I'm waiting for her. At long last I've had quotes for the canopy over my bay window and front door and it's now affordable, in fact I've saved too much but I need some decorating and replastering doing so hopefully I can organise that afterwards. I'm so pleased as it's taken me a couple of years saving for it, treating it like a debt and saving the same amount each month before spending anything, anyway hopefully it should be replaced very soon. The next thing on the agenda after the replastering and decorating will be a new carpet in the front room and then I can breathe for a bit 🤩
I'm at the Lottie quite a bit, my butternut squash didn't germinate at all, courgettes I only have three plants that are ok but most of everything else is fine. The raised beds I put in the garden are producing really well and I'm really pleased especially with the mange tout that I can't seem to grow at the Lottie even though I keep trying! And my romaine lettuce is doing really well as well and that's not something I usually grow,so I'm quite impressed 🤣
On the budget front things improved and what with using the community pantry and all the veggies from the Lottie I'm doing fine and even treated myself to a couple of summer dresses the other week. I'm still losing weight and over a stone and a half has gone now so I'm feeling much better with that.
Oh 'not my cat' hasn't been round to see me for ages as I've been looking after both DDS dogs but he is still going over the road, I do spy him going up their drive 🤣 but he's looking really old and thin now, but he is a very old cat.
My eldest DD has been using her SC quite a lot the last few months, cooking all sorts of dishes that she has seen on the int. She bought me over some goulash yesterday which was lovely, but has done lasagne, curry and even risotto and they've all been really tasty , so I've tried cooking the lasagne and it worked really well, I was impressed as usually everything ends up tasting the same. I found a recipe for bread so I've said I will try and see how it works out!!! I can't imagine bread being cooked in a sc but I'll give it a go!!
So I'm going to see if she's done if anyone can hear me banging on the window, I do reckon they take advantage of these young kids doing these unsocial hours but you can't just leave them to walk home at this time of the night, especially as it's on a big retail park 😕

Well done for consistently saving up for that canopy! It’s great to hear that all is going well. Hopefully, your granddaughter wasn’t kept working for too much longer.2

Great to hear your good news re the canopy, Nanny G. You've done so well saving consistently over the last couple of years.
I think it's shocking that McD's have youngsters working so late. Your DGD is very lucky to have you there for her - it definitely constitutes going 'above and beyond' normal nanny duties!1 -
Congratulations on not only saving enough for the canopy fund, but exceeding the amount needed!1
