I had thought this, as we're replacing our laminate flooring, too. However, is underfloor heating nearly as effective as a regular radiator system?

    UFH is the BEST!
If you can afford it, then I'd say do it.
It provides the most comfortable and pleasant EVEN heating experience, no cold spots, no warm spots, just a pleasant gentle comfortable warmth.
Works at much lower water temps, so more efficient with modern condensing boilers, and ideal for when we all go 'heat source pump'.
Soz - I was being sarcy to NAF as it will cost significantly more to install, but if you are replacing your floor covering anyway, and you'd seriously consider it, then please get some quotes.
If you CAN, then DO

Ooof, that's threw a spanner in the works!

Is UFH something a DIYer could do? Then, their is electric vs water to think about!

What about the depth of the floor? It would increase the depth quite substantially, no doubt?

Additionally, may be worth noting, we're only replacing the flooring in our living room, hallway and two bedrooms.

The kitchen has vinyl (cheap, but hand't planned to take it up yet). Bathroom has tiles (definitely not coming up!). Conservatory has vinyl too (hadn't planned to remove, either) – plus, can UFH even go in a conservatory?

UFH is possible to do DIY, but not as your first job. If you want to retain the floor at the existing level, you'll have to dig some/all of it out. Depending on the age of the property, digging out the floor and installing a decent amount of insulation first is well worth considering.

Electric-v-wet is a simple argument to settle - Electric will cost you a small fortune to run. Wet gives you the option to run off a gas boiler, heat pumps, or bio-fuels.
Her courage will change the world.

Treasure the moments that you have. Savour them for as long as you can for they will never come back again.

Therein lies the main issue – digging up the concrete floor would be a massive undertaking!
  • Yup - forget it!

Is there any reason why you won't make any floor channels to bury radiator pipes ? It would save some burying in the walls .....
