No confidence in broker

So we are first time buyers and had a offer accepted on a flat we love we did our research and selected a recommended broker and well since speaking to him our confidence is in bits.
He keeps asking us the same questions over and over asks us thing's like " why are you doing that ?" When we say we would go for the full structural survey but when we ask " is that not a good idea ? " he doesn't seem to offer anything and just seems to be reading off a script. He's just called today and again asking the same things and without sounding rude sounds like the work experience lad.
I maybe niavely assumed a broker was there to walk you through the process and a voice to steer you in the right path for your needs and I'm not getting that am i wrong to think this ? Should i be looking at another broker ?

A broker is there to guide you through the application process. If you're not happy with the current one, find another.
Who recommended them to you?Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.1 -
My wife did research online, here included and the firm was recommended a few times, I've chatted to a friend who is buying but further along and he is very happy with his broker although his has a fee of nearly £600 ours is no fee. A case of you get what you pay for ?0

When you say broker I assume you mean a mortgage broker. A mortgage broker’s job is to find you a mortgage that works for you. It’s not down to the broker to say or recommend what type of survey you should get.Pantomimehorse said:So we are first time buyers and had a offer accepted on a flat we love we did our research and selected a recommended broker and well since speaking to him our confidence is in bits.

Yes so he's spoken to us three times so far and keeps asking us the same things , he just doesn't seem to know or sound like he knows what he's doing.0

If you’re not happy then take you business elsewhere. Do you have a contract with the broker? Does it mention anything about fees or cancelling services?Pantomimehorse said:Yes so he's spoken to us three times so far and keeps asking us the same things , he just doesn't seem to know or sound like he knows what he's doing.0 -
No contract and we voiced our concerns to him today and he said we had no obligation to stay with them. Even then when we said this would think he would try to reassure us and he didn'tLover_of_Lycra said:

Doesn’t sound as if this broker is bothered about your business so vote with your feet and take your business elsewhere.Pantomimehorse said:

Its trial and error sometimes with brokers. I went with one initially charging £400 and he just never explained things or told me why when I asked. If u asked an awkward question just never emailed back. So I went with someone else and shes been brill.....half the price and can ask her as many silly questions as I want! She's given me advice on surveys and solicitors the lot. They should be able to advise on every stage of the house buying process not just a there's your mortgage off you pop kinda thing. Just bin him off, there's plenty more fish in the sea1

Lots of mortgage brokers. If not happy with current broker can move to another.Pantomimehorse said:My wife did research online, here included and the firm was recommended a few times, I've chatted to a friend who is buying but further along and he is very happy with his broker although his has a fee of nearly £600 ours is no fee. I am currently using a no fee morrgage broker and so far been a good straightforward experience.
Do your research and find another.1 -
Clearly, this MB doesn't want your business and you aren't comfortable with him either.
Just move on and find another one if that is the case though do keep in mind that you will start from scratch again with a full fact find etc.
MBs will be reluctant to give you formal advice on all parts of the buying process, they can get into trouble by straying into the non-mortgage areas and if you rely on that and it ends up pear shaped.0
