Ryanair's Zero Charge Flight Change - How do you change flights?

Does anyone know the mechanism for this? i.e. if you go through the process of booking a new flight is there a point at which you can cancel the old one and transfer the cost to the new one? I don't want to finish up paying for 2 flights!

You have to log into your account and from there select which flights you want to change.

(note you can only change up to the end of the year fee free...moving to next year would involve fees)
