TOP_CAT said:Ringing barclaycard isnt as hard as you make out..yes you have to wait and listen to robotic frustrating stupid options but you do get through to a person and they can help .
Sometimes it takes a few trys if you mess up the options which is easily done .
I find putting the phone on speaker and doing/completing another task online the best way to stay productive while waiting or cooking or tiding up ..whatever suits !
You can do alot worse than barclaycard customer service, overall its not that bad at all .
I stand by my comment regarding Barclaycard customer service as they definitely come a distant second to my other providers which are MBNA, Halifax, Virgin, Tesco and Santander, everything I want to do with these providers can easily be done online, Barclaycard suggest I can close my account via online messaging but It's not working at present and hasn't been for quite a while so overall yes quite bad.0 -
I had the same Customer Service issue with Barclaycard when trying to find out happens to a final balance and trailing interest, with regard to any future payments. I had requested a closure on their automated system, as they ask you to do. Upon calling, I was directed to the in-app Chat where someone said they were looking into my query, and never came back - happened twice. I just gave up, kept my Direct Debit active, and kept an eye on it until the account disappeared from the app.
Considering it's Barclaycard, I was surprised that their Customer Service fell so short.0 -
One of the problems at the moment re. calling Barclaycard is that you get through to a Barclays Bank employee who will then talk to Barclaycard on your behalf.
The representative was helpful but it wasn’t easy to sort out a DD issue I had , but in the end it got sorted so stick with it.
But agree that Barclaycard do come up short a bit with this system of going through a Barclays Bank employee.0 -
Yes agree with @costabit - it seems difficult to get through to the Barclaycard team as even if you call the number on the back of the credit card (or indeed 'direct call' from the app and choose 'Barclaycard') you get the banking team who are OK on basic stuff but anything complicated to do with the credit card side of the business is often beyond their knowledge and training. You then hold while they talk to Barclaycard colleagues and relay to you. Needless to say, things get lost in translation.0

Seems I'm not on my own then with 'trying' to get something done with Barclaycard. I ended up paying off the new £8.99 transaction as I couldn't be bothered waiting for a new statement, It's now showing as zero balance again but still fully functional?
I've no intention of using Barclaycard ever again, just want it closed, my mistake for thinking it would be relatively easy to close an account with no outstanding balance. Just out of interest I contacted Sainsburys bank to double check new DD was set up as it's a new account and I wouldn't want to lose a cracking promotional deal over missing the first payment (yes I know I can pay it manually), anyway Sainsburys replied within 24hrs confirming DD was all set up, no issues, really good service and fast reply, on reflection I'm glad Barclaycard decimated my limit, they've done me a favour, now get the account closed and jog on.0 -
The hassle-free way is to write them a letter and say you want to close the card. Post and forget!1
