Sky Signal Issues due to tree's

Hello all,

I've been with sky for 8 years, we moved home last winter and bought the services with us, opposite it house are big tree's and since spring we have been having issues with the signal. They have been out twice to try and sort it but yesterday the guy tried moving the dish and adjusting it but couldn't get us a signal thats good enough to provide a reliable a signal after throwing in the towel he told me they can't supply me a service due to the tree's and that i will have to cancel the contract.  I only renewed about 4 months ago ( before i started having the problems)  will they charge me an early cancellation free or give me any grief?

Also i have sky broadband installed with the package. Would it be possible for me to cancel that too or could they make me keep the broadband as its a 'separate' service and we aren't having any issues with that?

Thanks

Matt

I would be asking SKY can you cancel penalty free due to signal . They may say yes .

Its so frustrating, never had any issues with sky before and have always managed to wrangle good deals off them at renewals but the tree is part of a nature reserve so i doubt the council would entertain the thought of me requesting it be removed.

Fingers crossed they will turn round and say its not my fault they cant provide a signal and call it a day.

As a general rule its not Sky's fault/responsibility that your dish is behind some trees.

If the dish was already there when you moved in then the obvious solution is one of two things if you really value your TV:  1) move the dish, or 2) prune/cut down the tree(s), assuming they are on your land.  note that dishes don't have to sit on walls, they could sit at the bottom of the garden or on chimneys if needs be, though the latter is rarely done now if at all.  It would be quite unusual for an property not to get a satellite signal at all on any suitable wall at any suitable height.

It sounds like they are deciduous trees - ie they'll lose their leaves in the autumn.  That will return the signal but you'll be back in the same situation next summer.

There are phone apps that will allow you to find a spot (if there is one) that the satellite is not obscured (using the phone's GPS, compass and camera).

I use one called Satellite Dish Pointer.  The satellite is Astra 2E or F at 28.2 degrees E.

I've been on plenty of caravan sites where it's been invaluable in choosing the pitch and/or a spot on my pitch to site my dish to clear trees, bushes and other obstructions.

A good satellite dish installer will be able to discuss possible dish locations and how to get the cables from it to the house (safely).

The online resource https://www.dishpointer.com/ - enter your postcode and select your satellite as 28.2E Astra 2E - does the same job.
