Yeah so it's two separate leads and I do think the old owner had sky so theres a sky dish on the side.
I dont have that though and just want normal free digital on my tv so I dont have a way of plugging it in
There are two cables, so there two Sky dishes?
Look on the roof, one aerial and one dish?

Two cables go to one sky box, there will only be one dish.
I mean theres definitely a normal aerial on the roof too, so do you think both these connections are for the sky box and there isnt one for the other aerial?

you can buy a new connector on ebay. comes as a repair kit. need to strip back the white insulation. keep the braiding away from the copper core. the braiding provides the earth. the kit comes with instructions anyway. so do that and plug it in.
Ah okay thank you! This makes sense

Once it's light tomorrow go outside and try to follow the route of the cable that comes from the aerial on the roof and see where it goes. It's often the case that once Sky has been installed the terrestrial aerial becomes obsolete and the connections inside the property are removed.
My guess would be that the two cables in your photo are for a Sky+ box (I could be wrong) and that your terrestrial aerial connection is separate.

The plugs are available in many places, even in Wilko

It's worth saying that many plugs require soldering the central wire. Not sure about these particular ones.

If you can't find a cable to connect to the aerial, see if you can pick up a Freesat box cheaply from anywhere. It'll give you all the normal TV channels from the satellite dish. I think some TVs even have Freesat receivers built in, if you're lucky!

Yeah I do have one of these, but think it may need soldering and thats the problem.

Have a look outside at your satellite dish, is there a twin feed cable going into it, you should see the number of inputs being used on the dish. Is this what is known as a shotgun cable, ie, two cables that are joined together and pulled apart at the end or are these two completely separate cables and if so can you trace where they're bot coming into your house?

Thanks, if I was to get a freesat box - how do those 2 wires connect to it? Will I still need a repair kit and/or solder a connector on?
