Whilst the latest removal of self-isolation requirements for U18s and fully jabbed adults is welcome (well, maybe not to everyone...), it is a bit of a pain when you have a just-18 child in tow what hasn't been able to get both jabs, so falls in the gap.

Is what it is... the same could be said for 19, 20, 21 etc year olds that won't be at 8 weeks since their first just yet, but it's another summer where a foreign holiday will be more of a challenge for us.

At the very least, I hope that these changes don't lessen the motivation to move places like the Greek islands to green. That would really be a double whammy...

There are plenty of holiday options closer to home.

I haven’t been abroad since 2019 and def won’t be looking at it this year

There are indeed and I avail myself of them as well. And it generally rains.

    Glad it suits you though.

    It doesn't particularly "suit me"

But sometimes the path of least resistance is the simplest and less stressful

I'm booked to go to Paris with my 18 year old (by only 10 days) in Nov. It's a long way off yet for us so hopeful that either a) 17 year olds are offered the vaccine in the next month or so or b) it's green by then so does not matter or c) We wait it out and move it forward by a couple of weeks nearer the time or d) pay for the additional 8 day test and let her chill at home for her 10 days isolation which I'm sure she'll be more than happy to do  ;)

Seriously though, it is a bit of a no mans land and if they need to be at work etc. it's not ideal. Oh and I don't get why some people come on a Travel forum to suggest people stay in the UK :D

Do you believe that travel within the UK doesn't count?  Depending on where you live, your trip to Paris could be much shorter/quicker than travelling for a staycation....

No, I believe that it does count, I had a fab time in London and York last month and was blessed with fantastic weather. However, this is a travel forum so people will be looking for advice re going abroad (as well as the UK) so leave them be lol. I am based in the North East of England and planning to fly to Paris so I'm guessing similar travel time to my train trip to London? I just think there are a few people on these forums waiting in the background to pounce on people for wanting to go abroad and have nothing constructive to say.

P.S. sorry OP for derailing your thread. I'm normally a lurker (for good reason it would seem)

Not at all... given that the average thread on here has as much chance of staying on topic as the average argument with my wife, I try not to get to precious about them...

In any case, I'd be very happy to have more holidays in the UK if only I didn't always pick the week with rotten weather.

Feel your pain. My 18yo and her same age boyfriend go to Greece in a few weeks.  A holiday booked a year ago (when I talked them out of going then)  Daughter had her 1st jab 5 weeks ago. I've no idea why she was just contacted by our Drs surgery to do so. Ironically she put it off for 2 weeks because she was finishing her final project for college and was worried about side effects making her unable to go in and subsequently affecting her grades. If she hadn't she'd have just managed to have her 2nd jab.

Think the only thing that can be done is throw money at the situation and pay for all the tests and accept that they're quarantining.

It's too much faff for me, so I'm happy not to go anywhere.
