Carpets are fitted so if you want them removed it's down to you once you complete.

If you’re planning to redecorate then the old carpets are a good thing, you can paint the walls and ceiling and make a mess and the old carpet will protect the floor, and save a lot of cleaning, just pull the whole thing up afterwards, dirt and all, and dump it

Protect the floor ? Why ? its going yo be recovered so who is ever going to see it and will probably be covered in paint from the original builders....

You are an adult, rip up the carpet yourself.

Leave them in place, Stanley about 6" all around and pull up, makes it more comfortable to paint the walls and the complete skirting board.

We just bought a house, we’ve replaced the carpets. The carpet filter told us we can take the old carpet to the tip for free or they would take it up for £50 per room. We did it ourselves and saved £150. Just took two trips down the road in a car. It was fairly easy.

One of the carpets came from Belgium, got lost in a warehouse and took 7 weeks  in total to arrive. We were living in the house by the second week. So depending if you are living in the house it might be worth waiting until delivery is confirmed? I don’t know, it helped us.

Oh and to add we never thought about asking for them to be removed. Just saw it as our job, like decorating etc.
  • This contradicts buyers who expect people to pay more for the carpets 😂. My parents' vendors wanted money for their carpets and my dad said no, so they took them out out of spite. Good job cos they wreaked of cat wee.

I certainly wouldn't be trying to remove it before exchange, and probably not from under all my furniture and belongings.

If waiting until after completion, I just about had time to clean and hoover, and that was with removal men doing everything.

Really don't know how I would've found time to rip up carpets (and presumably VERY sharp grip rod thingies), dispose of it, then get keys and get to my new purchase in time to unload lol!

Would be a flat no from me I'm afraid. Far too much hassle.

I have bought a house is it acceptable to ask the seller to take their carpets with them when they move out

I'd consider fitted carpets to be part of the house you've bought. Buy the house, you've bought the carpets.
