You can go for a Vinyl Matt such as Dulux Trade, it's wipeable.0

Silk, nooooo. Don't do it! Stick to matt on walls. Eggshell or satin on woodwork, although gloss can look good in the right setting - if it's done well.1

This. If some happen to like shiny walls, that's their prerogative, but if the OP wants to bring their house into the 21st century then that means matt paint on the walls, this being the near-universal 21st century practice.Grenage said:Silk, nooooo. Is silk not quite difficult to paint over, further down the line? Or have I misinterpreted what I have read on some painting sites?Living with Lupus is like juggling with butterflies0

It needs a good sanding, but I generally sand any wall before painting.0

I used to use silk for kitchens and bathrooms. This time because I have an extractor and 'modern' bungalow I tried matt. The way it's made now most light marks can be wiped off.I think it depends on the way and how much you cook. If there's loads of steam and splashing or you have children it may be worth doing silk. Otherwise I like the matt look.My Grandfather used to paint them with gloss! Thank goodness paints have changed. I couldn't be doing whole walls of gloss. Exhausting.
I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!
