Bit tenuous to call that safety issue, be as well saying women shouldn't use their names in public places or on facebook.maxmycardagain said:its rife all over, and pretty puerile
for the life of me though, i cannot understand why woman drivers want their name on a plate, surely safety is an issue?
oh, and number plate dark tinted to almost unreadable...grrrrr
As for tinted plates, I can honestly say I've never seen one and it's not an option the numberplate company I use offer.
They'll do you all manner of fonts/sizes/colours/finishes, but tinted isn't one.0 -
It's because the female brain, being maladapted to processing information related to driving, often overheats when a woman is behind the wheel. Overheating destroys memories, so it is necessary for us to have visual reminders of basic information attached to the car. Some of us forget our names whilst driving, so need them on the number plate; others might have postcodes, dates of birth or hair colour displayed. The DVLA helps by providing endless quantities of personalised number plates.maxmycardagain said:its rife all over, and pretty puerile

Or you could ask the same question of a man with his name or initials on his number plate. It seems to be a unisex urge.3 -
I've seen a few. I assume it's an attempt to fool an ANPR camera. Maybe not done by the plate maker but a film applied over the top?BOWFER said:As for tinted plates, I can honestly say I've never seen one and it's not an option the numberplate company I use offer.I need to think of something new here...0 -
That was a hilarious postDitzy_Mitzy said:it is necessary for us to have visual reminders of basic information attached to the car. Some of us forget our names whilst driving, so need them on the number plate; others might have postcodes, dates of birth or hair colour displayed.
As for the matter of forgetting things, my brother recently acquired a number plate with his three initials, month and year of birth. Obviously, the perfect opportunity to rib him that at his age he must need the reminders to overcome the onset of age-related cognitive impairment.0 -
Just head around any city centre, particularly when not driving so you can focus on the plates instead, the dark / 4D nonsense plates are common enough e.g.BOWFER said:

Naturally they are "show plates only" nudge nudge wink wink0 -
After a near miss with 'officer biker' last year where the other 2 chaps I was out riding with got 'done' (£100 fine no points BUT if caught again within 12 month period, bike seized, YIKES!!!!) and I didn't I am sticking to standard 'Yellow Pages' size number plate these days which looks horrendous but as I'm not in the habit of giving hard earned money away I'm preferring riding a 100% road legal bike, it's stress free.
I like to think that I didn't get the illegal plate fine as cop was on BMW like me and us BMW bikers are a bit clickey (I am dreaming I know lol)
Must admit to seeing loads of illegal plates on bikes AND cars every day and the cops could have a field day if they chose to, guess it's all down to which 'type' of cop you cross paths with on the day.0
