I don't disagree with your sentiment, but doesn't everyone check how much they're paying for something?
From what I read in the first post, the OP was fully aware the cost was £79, but had rationalised the excessive cost using their own preconceptions of what a service like this should cost.....planckfund said:
...and as I had half-remembered talk of it being privatised, I was consequently not surprised with the price being a lot higher than I had emembered from 10 years ago when I last looked up a LR title.....
The same goes for lots of 'services' that people happily pay for because the cost is what they think they should be paying, or they don't apply a VFM test.

planckfund said:Just been caught by the Land Registry fake site landregistryonline.org.uk that charged me £79 for a copy of a £3 Land Registry title --- it looked very plausible as the Land Registry website and comes very high in searches - the real site is actually hard to find and as I had half-remembered talk of it being privatised,
Here is google with the site you found way down the list, all other links are the genuine site
Here's Bing with that site not even on page 1
Just for laughs - Yahoo
While I agree their google snippet should NOT say HM Land Registry Online - this is scummy and scammy behaviour, how did you end up on their page?2 -

This bit of your post I am struggling with, as I do for all these "scam site" posts. Google has largely cleaned up its act in this regard, but perhaps you're using a different search? Can you do the search again and show us what came up as I'm genuinely interested. Far from being "hard to find" the real site is impossible to avoid.
Do you use an adblocker? I couldn't get the site the OP used in the first page of results until I switched my adblocker off. Then it comes near the top, along with some other similar sites, but all with "Ad" in front of them. (using google here)

Just got caught myself with this. Paid nearly £ 40.00 for something that I could have got for £ 6.00
I agree with the actual poster that these kind of scams, and that is what they are, should be clamped down on.
Yes it might be legal, and yes, I got what was promised, but they rely people being mislead into thinking that this is an official government site.
There seems to be a lot of people here who seem to delight in their own cleverness and take great pleasure in pointing out other peoples mistakes with glee. Pretty sad if you ask me. Still, if that is the way you get your jollies - go for it. I'd have thought someone being seriously overcharged would be something that would be disapproved of on these forums.
Ah well, it's only thirty six quid in the toilet, but it's bloody annoying....0 -
This is disgusting Online Land Registry they have just had me over i thought i had sent an email to the "Land Registry" and received a phone call from them, that's right a phone call from them saying that they could administer some changes to my documents they charged me £30 then £180 only to find that all they do is send you the forms that are free on the Land Registry web site.
Surely this at best is a scam and at worst is fraud from a representation point of view!
And yes they do say on their small print that they are not connected to the Land Registry but this is well after the choice to ask for advice and not prior.
They are nothing more than cheats and scammers, i will fight all the way to get my money back, any supporters on here can join my actions, please make contact thanks
Do the people above supporting them work for them ????
