  • BTW the microchipping info on the website was done, hence the vet contacting the OP and saying "we have your cat here".

Your wish is my command   :)  Nothing to update, hence not added anything.

You may find it odd that the OP arranged a future date to collect. This is because the vet provided the contact number of FTC to the OP, and sent the cat (with kittens) away after their appointment. OP promptly contacted FTC to organise collecting the cat(s) but was faced with delays.... try as they might.
In your original post you said:

vet (V) emails registered owner of the cat, do you want it back? Registered owner (RO) says "yes, I shall have her back thank you. What time etc". V: She's got kittens too, do you want those? "Yes, no problem I have plenty of space to care for them".

which sounded like you had an arrangement with the vet to collect your cat from them.
What I do find odd is that the vet emailed you instead of phoning.

Even 5 years ago, it was clear that people were keeping an animal that they find. The aim of this petition:
"We want all vets to scan all new and current  pets at registration and at every visit to check microchip data to make sure pet and owner match #ScanMe and #CheckThatChip each visit. Our aim is to see all vets acknowledging and implementing as a ‘Code of Practice’ the scanning and checking of microchips in practices up and down the country. Scanning and Checking will reunite missing and stolen pets that have been sold on or kept by a finder. Scanning and checking will also help pet owners with updating their contact details"

This one has just shy of 58,000 signatures. It points out that pets that are kept by finding, sold on or claimed as stray are able to have their microchip details changed by the keeper.

Owners pay for the peace of mind that microchipping will ensure their missing/lost pet will be returned home. But it is not so.

Who is legislation and law for - the owner or the keeper? If you own a dog and lose it, someone finds it and becomes the keeper? That's bonkers!

Legally a pet is property, so apart from the legal obligation to treat it humanely, it is no different to any other item of property you may find.
