Is it worth reporting someone who brake checked you?

Yes it shows the registration number of the vehicle otherwise I won't bother contacting the policeNorman_Castle said:If the footage shhows the reg definitely report it. Let the police decide if its worth following up.0 -
Google Operation Snap. Many forces are actively encouraging this to be reported and there will be consequences for the offending driver that may make him think twice about his dangerous driving next time.
Even if it's not an Operation Snap area I think you should still report it.1 -
"Had the cruise control set at 70mph. "
I suspect you oblivous to the driver behind wanting to progress and were relatively slow to complete the overtake and return to the nearside lane. Given that he managed to overtake you.
No excuse for brake checking, post up the footage here so we can see.1 -
Police Scotland won’t do this. I contacted them offering to send them dashcam footage of a dangerous driving incident and they won’t accept it.jbainbridge said:Yes .. especially as you have video evidence. See if the local police force has a way of submitting videos online, most do.
They said I would have to make a formal report first, an officer would have to come to my house and take a statement, and only then would they request the dashcam footage if they deemed it necessary.
I didn’t bother pursuing it.0 -
At what speed were you going when you decided to overtake the HGV? Did you actually control the overtaking speed yourself or simply allow your cruise control to do so? Does your dashcam footage show your speed?
Sounds to me that you probably misjudged the closing speed of the other driver before attempting the overtake. No excuse for his behaviour though.0 -
Anybody else thinking it's a he-said-she-said without viewing the video...?1

Would like to post footage but will seek advice from police first. I read somewhere that if I put the footage on social media it might affect the case.caprikid1 said:"Had the cruise control set at 70mph. "

The hgv and I both left the roundabout and joined the dual carriageway and started to accelerate to national speed. As I got closer to hgv I checked the second lane there was no car behind me.neilmcl said:At what speed were you going when you decided to overtake the HGV? If you've just joined a dual carriageway, and are accelerating, at what point did you then "set" your cruise control?
I know you can use CC to accelerate (at a modest rate), but it seems unusual in these circumstances to use it before you've got up to cruising speed and whilst completing an overtake manoeuvre. How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)2 -
Quotes a younger driver and insinuates their failings yet relied on the machine?wazza2004 said:

Sorry, but what ridiculous nonsense. Brake checking is dangerous. Nothing to do with bruised pride here. I doubt the police will treat it as a priority, but dangerous driving should not go unchecked just because there is a pandemic on. Perhaps you'd prefer they didn't come round to yours if you had a break in.Supersonos said:No. People are selfish idiots and being an idiot doesn't stop you getting a licence. As a road user, you should expect this sort of behaviour.
The police have much better things to do than soothe your bruised pride.
Luckily my car braked just before me. Imagine if it was a young driver with not too much experience? They might hit the car in front or to avoid collision move into the first lane and risk being hit behind by the hgv they just overtook.
Report it if your driving was up to standard, these things rarely come out of the blue.0
